Tropicana, AC, weekly tourney help??!!, MrTeLLnj, 29. Oct 2003 10:47

I am goin to enter into the tropicana limit holdem tournament on thursday nov. 6 or 7th. ( 20+10 buy-in) I need a little advice. I figure i will get better answers from the board people then just calling them up and racking up a toll call ..hehe.. I DID GO TO SITE but nothing was realy there to read.

This seems like a nice price to pay for some experience and long time play and maybe a win

For those who have played this tourney ( limit or no-limit thursday and friday every week). i have a few questions
1. Structure, are there very fast round 10-12mins or are they longer or shorter.???
2. how much in checks am i getting 300, 500, 1000
3. What kind of players play these tournys, everyday people or semi pro regulars.
4.REBUYS, can i rebuy as soon as I go under the starting chip count or can i rebuy anytime i want .
5.Do the top 3 people only win money or is it the top 10, 20 etc etc
5a. Does the tourney regisration fill up very quickly??? i am assuming it does.

IF YOU HAVE PLAYED THIS TOURNEY BEFORE I WOULD LOVE YOUR HELP ?????????

Trop has new tourney structure starting in november.

Less than 100 dollar buy in gets you 1000 chips.

More than 100 dollar buy in gets you 2000 chips.

Hope this helps.

Hey Eman - Sorry, but my tournament experience at the Trop is limited. I've only participated in about a handful of them so I really can't give you too much feedback on them, but I do know that they usually get decent turnouts for the NL one's and the caliber of play is just average really - some really top-notch players, some average players, and some real fish! Some of my friends play in them and they think they're great; but as far as the payout structures, the re-buys etc., and things like that......I would say your best bet would be to call the Trop and ask to speak to a tournament director. But if you're planning on making the trip, and you know exactly how much the buy in will be and stuff, then just "go for it" ! You'll have as good a chance as anybody. They do get off to a late start sometimes, that I do know. They try to get as many people to sign up and sometimes they won't start it when it's supposed to be started. But I would definitely call them up on the day that you are planning to go there, just to confirm the event. (just a thought). The direct line to the poker room is 1-609-340-4171, and the toll free # is 1-800- T-H-E T-R-O-P, and then press 6 for the poker room. (good luck to you).

I have only entered one and it was the $100 rebuy event on a Friday. (I think they vary from Friday to Friday with early in the month being cheaper.)

You start with 500 chips, and can rebuy any time you are below this and everyone can add on 500 at the end. This is a little strange because most rebuys I play in you are allowed to rebuy at the level you started in. This actually came into play for me because I busted out on the last hand before the add on and they would not let me purchase a rebuy and an add on, just the add on.
Anyway, I think the blinds go up every 20 minutes and they have TV monitors that list the level, how much time is left, and when the next break will be.
You have to have a poker club card to play, but getting one takes about 10 minutes when you get there.

The level of play was much worse than $100 tourney should be.
People that were not short stacked going all in on 77, 44, etc. I actually came from last at the end of the rebuy (I only had 500 and just about everyone added on 500) to come in 11th/130+ and got a few hundred for my night.
