How would you play this?, 3Kings, 29. Oct 2003 09:22 | ||

| This is just a scenario that I was thinking about not an actualy hand. Let's assume a more passive than aggressive game (5 or more players in the pot with no raise). You have JTh in middle position. One limper calls, you call as do two people behind you and the small blind. BB check and you see the flop 6 handed. Flop: 2h 5s 8h BB bets and the limper calls. How would you predeed from here? I think that I would raise. At this point there is 10 bets in the pot and everyone who has a draw would be getting 5 to 1 so would probably call the raise anyway. If there was an overcard on the flop, I think you should just call hoping to hit your flush. However, it is possible that a Jack or to a lesser extent a Ten might win the hand for you. Your raise then is designed to knock out anyone with a Jack or Ten with a bigger kicker (KTc or QJd). You can also use this raise to get information from the BB who might have flopped two pair or a set. If he reraises or anyone behind you reraises, you know a single Jack or Ten probably won't win the hand for you and you can fold on the river if your flush doesn't come. Comments? | ||

| Im no expert but hers how I would play it. I would just call the bet for a couple reasons, 1. You dont want to scare our the other players, you want as many people as possible calling to build the pot up for your flush draw. 2. If you raise, you might get reraised behind you and maybe even capped before it gets backed to you . 3. You dont have anything near the nuts, you still might be drawing dead to another player with the higher flush. 4. If its passive table, I think you have to respect the EP bets and assume he has a hand. 5. Save your money. Wait for a better spot | ||

| If it's passive, I would just call if there were still some players behind me, not because I'm afraid of them raising, but because I want them in there to pay me off if hit. If I'm around back, I would raise because I know people will call another bet once they have one in. With that many players it's not a huge tragedy if you get popped after raising the flop because you still have enough outs as long as there isn't a better flush out against you. Flush against flush does happen, and you can't be sure that a J or a T will win it for you, but you do have enough of a hand to play this pot. I usually don't worry too much about higher flushes unless there is a lot of action, because when someone else has two hearts, the likelihood that either of you will make it goes way down. When it does happen it's a big drag, but it just doesn't seem like a big deal to me when I have lots of people in a pot. | ||
