Hold Em, 1-2 Ultimate Bet

7 at the table. I'm in the BB. DEalt A2os. All fold, SB calls and I check. 2 see the flop. (Other player is TREXSS - you here chief?)

2c 2s Js - Cool - I love this flop. I bet. SB reaises. I re-raise. He caps the bet at 4.

Hmm... what does he have? The last 2? I have the best kicker unless he has 2 J. Does he have JJ? Does he only haveone J? Is he on a flush draw?

Turn - Qs. Uh oh, he may have made flush, but I have nut flush draw. I can't show weakness. He bets, I raise. He calls.

Hmmmm.... had he made his flush, why stop raising? I seem attached to my hand, he must think I'd call it. But he doesn't have the ace, maybe he puts me on 2 spades too.

River. Kd - ugh. He bets, I call. I missed my 4th spade for the flush, Let's see what he has.

Ah Ts.

Huh? He made a straight. Pulls in a $22 pot.

So, on the flop, what was he doing? He had to hit runner runner cards to make a straight or the flush which would have been 10high for all he knew.

As much as it steams me, I can make sense of the turn and river, the pot was too big to get away from with cards coming that help.

But that flop.... I was reraising, obviously representing trips. He's on a double draw. Cap the bet? What the hell?

So, how did I play this? This has been a head scratcher. And I know, this is no fold em hold em, but I didn't peg this player as a raise anything fruitcake.

Hard to make a read on a random raise like that, I think you played it well.

Andrew,
I think this kind of thing happens a lot with a paired board.

When you bet the flop heads up, with position, he probably put you on a steal. He decides to checkraise you to try and push you off your hand.

When you reraise he still convinces himself you don't have a 2 and he is going to represent one by capping the betting. He bets the turn still hoping you will fold.

Then you raise and he figures what the **** for one more bet I'll see if I can hit my hand and the river was kind to him.

I think you played this hand wonderfully and I think you can make a lot of money off of this type of player if he continues to make this kind of play.

Which, by the way, I'm not criticizing his play if you don't hold a 2 your opponent could pick up the pot with a lesser holding. I'm not saying his play was correct, but heads up it is probably a necessary play in some situations, especially if he feels you are buying too many pots from him.

Will
