"How many chips do you have?", gusnkc, 28. Oct 2003 20:51 | ||

| What is the purpose of asking another player in a no limit game, "How many chips do you have?" Is the person asking the question, 1) really asking the amount of chips, 2) asking the question to get a read/tell on another player, or 3) a combination of the two. This may be a silly question but I am new to poker. Thanks. | ||

| Usually it is both. As a good player, you will almost always know how many chips each of your opponents is playing. So, usually when you ask how deep someone is, you want to see your opponent's reaction - a lot of people WILL give clues regarding their strength here. But sometimes you really don't know how much money someone is playing (your opponent may just have rebought, may have won a big pot or maybe your opponent is hiding large denomination chips behind the small denomination chips that ARE in plain view), and in cases like this you have no other objective other than 1). | Hi. Rolf, This is the first post I have seen from you (admittedly I do not read them all) so let me welcome you to UPF. As you know, I enjoy your work, and hope to see more of it represented here. BarryT | ||

| Taking this a little further always make sure you know what everyones chip stack is especially in tournaments ( No limit even more important ) it is really important to know this info all the time as you dont want to waste time and disturb your thought process during a hand by working this is all out. ! And of course how you play in tournaments is always relative to both your won and everyone else's chip stack on 28. Oct 2003 21:04 Rolf Slotboom wrote: > Usually it is both.
