| Im no expert, but I was trying to teach my wife how to play Holdem. She just plays way too many hands and I cant get her to tighten up. Anyway, I asked her this question and I think she got a better understanding of why she should tighten up. I asked her of the following hands, what hands would she want dealt to her: K9o, A6o,Q8o, 72o. She said "of course A6". I told her shes wrong. I said 72o is much better because you know your folding and not losing any money with it. In the long run youll lose a lot more money getting dealt A6 and playing it, than you will getting 72 and not.... I think a clicked a light bulb in her head... Anyway....just thought Id share that with you. | ||

| I don't know whether your wife is of the generation who used to play lots of stud and draw poker with antes (as I am), but in thinking about the way the blinds work in holdem, this was an epiphany for me: Except in the blinds, you lose no money at all as long as you fold. Then put your playing skills on low cards to the test when you're in the BB. | ||

| Good question to ask to a beginner... However, there are times when 72o is playable, and there are times when A6o is playable. Of course, those times with A6o are more prevalent than 72o, so I would rather be dealt the A6o. Granted, most of the time, I am going to muck it, but there will be times where I play the A6o and muck the 72o, and I will not play any hand unless I believe I can play it profitably. Just wanted to be sure you are not concrete in your thinking. Lee | ||
