| Hi, I've been reading these forums for awhile and I thought I might post for some information. First of all I started play NLHE about 2 months ago and, like many, am now thoroughly addicted to it! I've read a few books, and have seen some success. Right now myself and some friends play tournament style for low stakes ($10 buy-in receives $50 in chips is the most common one). Being a full-time student and part-time employed I figured this might be a good way to make some cash over the long haul. Here are some questions I have. 1) I've tried some online poker rooms (PokerStars, UB, Party) but haven't bought in yet. Which one is better for a beginner? I usually do well in play chip rooms on partypoker, but not on UB for some reason. Coincidence? Or is it dumb luck rather than a clear talent difference. 2) A local B&M has a $3/$6 limit game, how much should I bring? 3) Are there any books you would recommend as being a 'must have' for someone looking to improve (I've read Hellmuth's book, Caro's book of Tells, and Warrens big book on Hold'Em)? | ||

| Play chip games mean nothing. People will chase every draw they have. I think Party Poker has more fish and can make more $$ in ring games and sit n go's. I do better at multi table tournaments on UB than Party though. For a 3-6 B+M game I usually start with $200 and $100 backup if needed. I would add Zen and the Art of Poker to the list. There is not much on Poker in there, but a lot about attitude. If you eliminate TILT from your game, it will become much more profitable for you. Guinnessman | ||

| this is a new player. a pro or semi pro could do with the minimum bankroll. you can have less or more bankroll depending on your skill in proportion to your opposition. | ||

| Ok thanks for all the info! Just to be clear though, the game's limits are $3/$6 and the BB is $3, just wanted to make sure you guys didn't think i was talking about a $6/$12 game. Also, what are some good games in Vegas (might be heading up that way soon)? I read that the excalibur has some low level games and that luxor has some nice tournaments, any other suggestions? | ||

| The Bunny Ranch at $3-6 you will need 100 times the BB but it will be well worth it. | ||

| Books.....we'll there was an old post where someone listed their top ten most influential poker books. So hunt around for it. I suggest the standards. Read Lee Jones Winning Low Limit Hold'em and Sklansky and Malmuth's Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players. | ||
