When suited flops go bad, Table Captain, 26. Oct 2003 16:37

Playing 6-12 live with a great table. I am running over this game as I have won every hand I have shown down. People are overplaying their hands(UTG raises with as little as A-10o) and calling me all the way when we both know i am ahead. Kill pot so limits are 12-24 for this hand, i am directly to the left of the kill blind and OTB. Everyone in front of the KB folds, I raise with AsQs and get reraised by the BB. KB calls I call, Flop is Ac-3c-7c. BB bets out and KB raises. I ask for time and decide after a minute that my hand was way too good to lay down against these overplayers and the lady with the KB had been putting moves on people all day and then showing me before she mucked(HUGE mistake). I call the double bet cold and BB calls the raise. At this point I had decided the only way i was going to be able to get away from my hand is if a fourth club fell. Turn: 6d. A beautiful red card and a check from the BB(preflop raiser) KB bets and BB and I both call. River: 2h. Unless someone flopped the flush then Im good. BB bets out here (weak/tight player) and I am now not certain of what he has(KK is what i had thought from the postflop play)KB calls and i call. KB shows AJo and i have her outkicked with my queen. BB mucks without showing, however when i told him that he had kings his face got red and he said he didnt remember what he had. Anyway i drag a huge pot and i was wondering what everyone thought of the My play on the flop, turn, and river. I trusted my read of the table and went with it even though all indications were that i might be behind thx in advance.

Hi,

( I like your play pre-flop and on the flop). You felt that the KB has been putting alot of moves on the players way too much, and you also thought that the BB held K-K. (The BB may have held the Kings of clubs which would leave him drawing to the nut flush). But if that was the hand you put him on, when the 4th club didn't come up on the turn, or the King- and now the BB now checks it here,...when the KB now leads at it, I would have popped it for sure. Make him pay two bets cold to outdraw you, and then see what happens after you raise the KB on the turn. If they both just call you, you could still have the best hand but it is a possibility, that you don't. Only because the BB player was weak/tight. He could have flopped an Ace with a K/kicker, or even the remote chance of having pocket Aces, too, but backed off perhaps because of the flush board.
And the KB could have "anything" here. So when the BB now leads at the river, (because you suddenly thought that perhaps he may not have held K-K, and perhaps you 'were' beat), then to just call his bet now, is a good decision.

I think raising the turn is a must here, for a couple of reasons. First, based on your read of your opponents, you figure to have the best hand at this point. Second, its possible that the BB has a hand that he will release to a raise that is drawing very live against you (perhaps something like TT or JJ with a flush draw). These are hands you want to eliminate if you can. He wouldn't fold KK with a flush draw, but why not charge him the extra bet to draw to the hand? Based on your assessment of the KB, you could probably raise here with some hands even weaker than AQ.
I agree with your play throughout the rest of the hand.

My only thought would be to avoid the comment about the BB's hand on the end. While I am not one of those people who suggest you try and project a fishy image at the table, I also don't think you should advertise how much better you might be than the people you are playing against. I think it's great that you have good reads on these players, why let them know you have good reads on them? If they want to bet out and raise when you are ahead and have a read on them, more power to them. I wouldn't say or do anything to discourage them.

Thank you for your reply Lee, I agree with you there is absolutely no reason to be giving any player any extra information.
