Did I play this right?, GoBucs40, 26. Oct 2003 12:20

Home tournament. NLHE blinds 20/40, fairly early on. I was on the button and dealt KK. I had about 1100 in chips with the average right around 1000. There were 6 of us left and short stack was 550. 2 callers to me, I raised and made it 200. Short stack calls. He had been in every hand so I put him on a draw or decent pair. Flop is rainbow 2 Q 8. Short stack bets 40. I raise to put him all in. He shows pocket Aces and wins the hand. Did I overplay the Kings, should I have picked up on something. Maybe the $40 bet or did I play it ok and just get unlucky.

Thanks.

Bucs -

I think you definitely played the hand as best you could. You put to use the information provided to you throughout the tourney - just got a sour deal. 9 out of 10 times, that same player will not have pocket aces.

By the way - how did you both finish?

I felt I played the hand right as well. The only reason I was questioning it is the bet he made on the flop. I made a large bet pre-flop and he just called then after the flop he led into me with $40. If I was in his position with the Aces I would have went all in over the top of my raise. I guess that's what got me.

Same tourney, this is the hand that took me out. I think I played this one right too, just bad luck.

I was on the button with J - 10 suited. I call and there are 3 of us in the pot. Blinds were 100 - 200 and I was short stack at 700. Other 2 had about 1500. Flop comes Q 9 8 rainbow. First in bets 200, other calls, I raise to all in. first guy calls, other folds.

I turn over my straight, he turns over Q 8 for 2 pair. Turn is 2 and you guessed it, the river was an 8 giving him the boat.

I believe I played this one correctly. I needed to double up with the blinds so high and I had the straight.
