What should I have done different???, CodyHartman, 26. Oct 2003 09:44 | ||

| I was playing a live tourney at this small cardroom while visiting my folks this weekend. It was very small, just 20 of us. $25 buy in which gave you 500 chips then a rebuy of another 750. I was playing very tight but had to play out of my element because the blinds were going up every ten minutes leading to speed play. I got to the final table with only 700 in chips. Got lucky to double upo twice with K J suited and some other 2 face hand when this hand came up. I was on the button with the blinds 600-1200. I was in 2nd or 3rd chip position, too close to call, and got K K. Everyone folded up to me. (There were 5 of us left and it the tourney paid the top 4). So on the button I raised to 3600, triple blind bet. I only had another 1000 or so chips left. SB folds the BB looks at me and takes a few and says I re-raise you putting you all in, which only left him with about 500 in chips left. I figure the chances of him have aces is low so I beat him into the pot. We flip over and he has got A 6 offsuit. Many people looked and were amazed he called such a high bet. Flop comes with an ace and I am busted. So what should I have done different. He gambled and won and I am left with nothing. Did he just make a crappy call??? Should I have pushed them all in on the button like that? I felt like my table image was that of a tight playerbecause I had gotten some respect folds earlier. I do not believe this guy made the right call for that amount. I really believe since I was the young new guy that he thought I was trying to make a play on the button and blind steal since we were at the pay line. As a sidenote I got up and said man what could I have done different, and he says back you coulda folded when I re-raised you. I was pissed when he said that. Later the SB guy said I played it well and an all in was the only thing I could have done different. I just want some re assurance from y'all about this. But should i have thought about the possiblity of him playing Ace-x and hitting??? Should I have gone all in??? Very frustrated Sorry it so long but I just wanted to be through. Cody | ||

| There was no point in not going all in with the KK since your bet only left you 1000, not even enough for a BB at that point. Not sure if the extra 1000 might have prevented a call, but it could have. Eli on 26. | I see the fact that I should have just pushed them all out there. Newbie mistake I guess. But how bad a call is this guy making when a tight player triples the blind late into a tourney. Is he thinking that I am making a move? Does he think I am bluffing? Does he really believe an Ace 6 offsuit in the Big Blind is strong? I just cant really believe that his play was smart. I guess I could have tried the limp or folded his re-raise, but I was ot out for 4th I wanted to win. I do really see how I should have pushed them all in because what is 1100 in chips going to do for me, that is not even a BB bet. Any other feedback or thoughts please post. | ||

| in a small low buyin tourny, it is standard for weak players not to even notice you are playing tight. or loose, or anything. they will play any ace and gamble, like this guy did. you will get zero respect in these type of tournies and have to play accordingly. because of this, bluffing, tricky plays, people respecting you raises and that type of thing are almost totally ineffectual. | ||
