| Hi. In a thread below Angel asks about making it three bets on the river and folding to a fourth bet. I postulated a hand, and of course I was told that I was vulnerable to a bluff. Well, I am curious how many of you have experienced a 4-bet bluff on the river. Howe many of you have made one? (Do not just say, "I have" please. Everyone wants to say that. Please citte the specific hand that you decided that, after an opponet bet and you raised and he re-rasied, you said "I bet a bluff re-re-raise would be a good idea." If you claim you did, did it work? I will admit to making some bluf raises on the river, and some bluff three-bets. I cannot ever remember making a bluff 4-bet (and I am sure I would). Maybe I am just a wimp and the rest of you are doing it all the time. I must say that when someone bets and I raise and they re-rasie, they almost always have something akin to the nuts, and b) I figure they are calling anyway so I do not really bluff. All responses welcome. I sortof have a feelin that people worry a bit too much about bluff-raises in general. and bluff-4-bet raises in particluar. | ||

| i dont think ive ever folded to a 4 bet on the river (pots always 2 big and i usually have a serious hand) i've never been bluff 4 bet either (when ive called, obviously) the last time i was 4 bet, he had 5-6 spades giving him the nut, str flush when i was holding the ace flush. i called his 4 bet after counting on my fingers the 4-7-8 of spades and realizing i was screwed. lol. i have also never seen anyone 4 bet bluff, but just because i havent doesnt mean it doesnt exist. | ||

| I had 4 double tequila braindeaths on the river once but cant remember if I was bluffing or not. I woke with a copy of JV's killer poker in one hand a empty wallet in the other and one hell of a headache so I guess its possible I have. I know a guy with the initials H.B. that more than likely has. Maybe he'll tells us all about it on Wednesday. See you there timmer | ||

| I recall pulling it off one time Barry in your home town against an opponent named James (very quiet dark haired slim built man....mid 30's....quite aggressive.....I'm sure you know him and have played with him) but it is very rare indeed. GRANT PITTMAN | ||

| Never done it, never seen it. The only way I could imagine it is on a multi-player hand where you think you have 2nd best hand but could improve to best by bluffing out a tight player. Hypothetically, let's say you're on the button and see the river 4-way with top 2-pair. An EP player who you think has bottom or middle set bets out. He's raised by someone who you think has a hand you can beat (maybe you put him on bottom 2-pair or top pair top kicker). Next, he's 3-bet by a total maniac, who you think is trying to steal the pot with nothing. You cap--not to bluff out the 3-bettor, but to drive out the bottom set, by forcing him to call multiple bets and by representing huge strength. Obviously, you'd need iron-clad reads on your opponents to try something like this. I'm not sure how realistic my hypothetical is, for that reason. But in a traditional heads up situation, it's hard to imagine a 4-bet bluff-raise working. If they've 3-bet, they've probably got something. And even if they don't, they'll call you down after having come so far. | ||
