playing against a table full of bad players, re-buy, 25. Oct 2003 14:11

i've been playing poker for about a year now, online, at home and live games at a near by card room and although i know my game still needs years more work i'd like to consider myself a half way decent player who's picked up on the game pretty fast. My biggest problem right now though is trying to beat the games at the card room i go to, where most everyone at your table will be a horribly bad player. And when i mean bad, i mean REALLY bad. ie: cold calling 3 bets with ANY 2 suited cards or even just and A or K with like a 3 kicker. Of course in most situations i would love people like that since 99% the time they're just going to be paying me off with their horrible hands, but it just doesn't seem to be the case when the entire table is calling you with anything. I try playing really really tight but even when i get the best of it, by the river someone with a 2 -4 offsuit catches a strait to beat me or something like that. Is there a different kind of strategy i don't know about for playing against so many other bad players other than just playing tight? or am i doomed to just play my best game and hope the guy with the 9 5 suited doens't catch his flush?

keep doing what your doing. if you would like to not have the swings inherent in those loose games, try looking for slightly tighter loose games were you wont make as much from the bad players, but it will less up and down, bankroll-wise. its less annoying too.

remember big pairs go down in value and drawing hands up . considering there is a full field and little reraising later in the hand. I beleive position plays hugely in this type of game

also when there is many in till the end poker has the tendancy to become more of a showdown game where you need trips or better .(stud) or at least top two (hold em) to win consistantly.

Id like to add that it seems to me that when games play like this they become games of the nuts or nearly the nuts. Simply because most of your opponents seem to be nuts

REBUY, RAISING IS NOT GOING TO DO IT. WHEN YOU HAVE FOUR OR FIVE PLAYERS IN YOU JUST ENCOURAGE THEM TO STAY, AND WITH ALL THOSE PLAYERS IN YOU WILL PROBAB;Y BE OUT DRAWN. PLAY SLOWER AND PLAY DRAWING HANDS, LJH
