| Probably one of the most heart-wrenching hands I’ve seen in my short online career. I decide to step up to the big time at the $100 NLHE SNG table. After what was probably two and a half hours of play it was down to two players—me, and a guy who had been playing extremely solid, “smart aggressive” poker all night. He’s holding just about T8,000 of the T10,000 in available chips, while I’ve got just over T2,000. The blinds are high, and for the last 5 hands or so he’d been stealing by steamrolling me with raises. I had absolutely nothing to call with—T4os, 83os, 26os. The Poker Gods were angry that day . . . like an old man trying to return soup at a deli. Then I finally catch a little something—A2s. He tries to steamroll again, and I push all in. Without hesitation he calls the bet with KK. Crap. The flop comes: A-K-2 This flop hits me pretty hard, but not hard enough. While I sit there with my two pair Aces and deuces, my opponent now has a set of Kings. The next card comes off . . . A-K-2-2 Now I’m really in trouble. I’ve got a boat deuces over Aces, but my opponent has a boat of his own—Kings over deuces. The final card comes . . . A-K-2-2-A . . . giving my opponent a full house Kings over Aces, but me the Aces over deuces. Wow! After 45 more minutes of play I manage to put my opponent away with a larger flush, and leave the table with a few more dollars than I started with. Score one for the little guy! - Bart - | ||
