Ultimate Bet Vs. Party Poker, Russ, 24. Oct 2003 11:48

| Is it just me or does UB kick the crap out of Party. Granted that Party has a much larger community of players, but every facet of gameplay at UB is far superior. The speed, the gameplay, the interface. I sent an e-mail to support for the 1 problem I have had in 8 months of daily play and they responded in 12 minutes! A perfect response too. I think that Party gives away so many bonuses that people just get comfortable there, but UB's software design and gameflow are just unparalleled. Does anyone agree? What am I missing about Party? | ||

If you are a strong player this will equate to higher profits (I am regularly at tables w/ over 120 hands per hr). Ofcourse if you suck and crutch your way through, you will lose more. Party poker also gets more newbies due to mainstream advertising so it's probably looser there. UB is just a far more gratifying experience. I am never frustrated, I never have to wait to play, I never miss out on anything I want to play in (Except freerolls where the cheapos sign up what seems to be leapyears in advance) Russ

| You can still find some very loose tables at UB. Especially the NL Hold'em tables are a zoo, due to the popularity of the WPT. | ||

| I greatly prefer Party for ring and SnG's to UB. The client software runs faster, at least on my machines, too. And while UB may offer better email support, that is *all* there offer. Party has 24/7 phone support that has always taken care of my needs in a matter of minutes, no matter how technical it gets. This includes transferring me to the network and system people when needed. I will concede that UB is much better for MT Tournys. Party seems to have more SnG's, though at busy times they can still be hard to get into. And while others may not like the 800 starting chips and the 10-hand blind rounds, I find that the faster game time to be more profitable so long as I don't go after the maniacs. I also think there are far more ring games to choose from at the levels I play at (up to 5/10). And of course the bottom line, there are more players I can beat at those levels at Party. I don't need to be the best player at a table, just better than most of the others. | ||

| I started online play at UB and loved it for the first couple of months. I did well, made plenty of money. Then I suddenly started on a bad run there that has lasted more than two months. I'll go 4 or 5 rounds without a playable hand, then when I do get a good hand it gets cracked. Then a very brief run of good cards, 3 or 4 hand at most, then back to the grind. This just does not seem realistic--I mean, playing 2 tables at a time it equates to many thousands of hours of B&M play. In the meantime, I am playing well at other sites, and at the casino, and although I do go through some bad runs, they are nothing compared to what I have experienced at UB. I finally gave up and withdrew all my money. It just got too frustrating. I don't know what all this means--maybe the players are just that much better at UB and they were kicking my butt. All I know is I'm getting my 2BB/hr everywhere else I play so byebye UB. | ||

number in a tourney is a factor - any thoughts?, Andrew W, 24. Oct 2003 20:44

| I was wondering what everyone thinks of the difference between the sites in terms of the limits on multi-table entries. UB stops registrations at 400. Party doesn't appear to limit. I think there was a 1000 cap a month ago, but tonight I just looked and a tourney had over 1400 entries. It was NL, and almost 400 were gone in 36 minutes. but a limit tourney can go 7 hours with 1000 people. Anyone find this to be a detriment or benefit? On one hand, bigger prize pool, on the other hand, blinds go up quicker, when you still have lots of people in. Is it a bigger crap shoot with more people? | ||

| I was in that one, but it only cost me $28. I did three $26 sattelite tournaments and got second the first two (money back minus $1) and first the last one. Unfotunately, I got too aggressive with QQ, bet 1/2 my stack, got raised for the rest and called. Lost to AK when a K fell on the river. 104 out of 1419 and got $0...80th payed 560. I should have tried to hold on instead of doubling up. That was about 3.5 hours into the tourney. Guinnessman | ||

| I haven't played much at Party, and the reason is that I started on UB, and can see no reason to change. The software is top notch, and the support is great. Every problem I've had has been resolved promptly, even when they were upgrading their server and having a ton of issues, it was still only a couple of days for them to refund me a satellite I got bumped off of. | ||
