To Call or Raise, Jonny-Sax, 22. Oct 2003 20:00

Hi There

I am a medium player who enjoys poker on a daily basis, both card rooms and online. Since the very beginning my poker strategy has always been the following:

If I have four cards to either a straight of flush, and I am in late position I raise, or call if there already has been more than two raises.

Then today after reading one of Mike Carros books, he tells me a call on a speculative hand such as the one I'm holding.

What to do? I understand that this is a pretty vague question, and that the answer "It depends" could be used here, but any help would be appreciated.

Jonny,

When you have a four-flush, you're less than even money to make it with three cards to come- I believe it's about 48-49%, not to mention that some of the time you'll lose to a better hand, which reduces its EV.
At the moment,I don't remember the percentage for making (I'm assuming) the up-and-down straight draw, but as before, its EV should be under 50% as well.
