| Long time lurker 1st time poster.. I host a LL DC home game, everyone starts $10 in chips. We're playing two 5 man tables. Now my roommate is usually one of the biggest fish I know, making huge, impossible bets and rebuying for $5. I can usually count on having most of his $15 by the end of the night. Well saturday before the game, he tells me how he's been reading up on poker strategy. 'Great' I think to myself, 'he'll be uber-confused and i'll take him out quick'. Yeah, right. I played pretty conservatively all night, but he would bust my nuts without fail. I have Q full? He's got Aces. I've got Jacks over? He's got Queens. King high flush? Doesn't beat his Ace high. I kid you not, this guy was on fire and getting hot cards like nothing I'd ever seen before. I basically won money from the fish and turned around and gave it right back to him. The good news is I finished exactly even, but it killed me to no end to see our biggest fish kick all our rears. Bleh. | ||

| no, no, no.....it's GOOD for the fish to win (once in awhile). It's good for the game......it's good for him to know that he can win.....and in the long run.....it'll still be good for you to have him in your game! ( I hope you congratulated your roommate on his nice victory that night :) 4P- welcome to the UPF skadet. | ||

| Hey Skadet, welcome to the posting side of the forum! My thoughts on your comments... 1) I highly doubt your friend did enough reading to make him a "good" player. More than likely he's read enough so he tightened up his starting requirements, and maybe stopped chasing the more ridiculous draws post flop... 2) Combine this with a run of good cards, and yes it probably seemed as he had turned into one hell of a card player overnight, chances are he'll give you some more money next time. 3) I don't know how good of a friend he is, personally I feel there are soooooooo many suckers out there to take money from, I would encourage my friend and do my best to help turn him into a real player, simply because its great to know someone else in real life who shares your passion for the game(even if it costs you some potential earnings)... You should suggest your favorite book to him and let him know about UPF... Best of luck, ReMMy | ||
