Matt Savage is a very well respected tournament director--If you had been present today, you would know that things aren't better in LV and considerably worse in AC. The topic I brought up was Pokerroom Management--is that an oxymoron? All feedback will be appreciated--trying to stimulate an article in Cardplayer

Gary-

I don't know how things are done in other places, but the rooms here in Arizona are all very well run. As if the floormen were not good enough, every tournament director I have met has been an absolute pro. I can't say enough good about them here.

What kinds of things are you interested in hearing about? Some general things I would say are that they are always on top of everything that is happening, they always have solid answers to questions, they are rarely unsure, and never try to BS you if they are. Instead, they say, "Let me find out," and are usually back within five or ten minutes with an answer. They always try to make an effort to get to know the players, even those that only show up semi-regularly. They always know the house rules backwards and forwards.

Hi Moz---The short answer is---all of the above--We had a spirited discussion today--The attendees included Alan Shoonmaker, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and about 20 others. There were many opinions and many trips off the subject, but i would say the majority felt that "management " didn't manage very much and promotion of poker was minimal at best. Until top management recognizes poker for the asset it can become, not much is going to change. One person even suggested that online poker will be the wave of the future, i logged on to Party tonight and there were 21,000 players--the future is here

Dont throw water on the fire---Gary

Here are some specifics-authors of remarks anonymous but real

1. The Taj does not care about the players. There's 10 more standing in line.
2. Bellagio and Mirage have an arrogant image and ambiance
3. Most casino cardrooms are considered amenities over in the corner
by senior management and not profit centers.
4, Most casino cardrooms are passive and do not participate in the marketing of the property---this was told to me by a respected cardroom manager
5. Most strikingly and to me upsetting was the observation by a very intelligent attendee, that because of the poor management of casino cardrooms and other factors, the boom will be fueled online. This comment was like an epiphany to me--the light bulb went off. That night i signed on to Party---21,000 players----Was that the voice of prophecy i heard?????
