| Found myself at a table against a familiar name last night in the 11pm 10+1 UB NL HE tourney - mozman. I know that name! UPF! Great, a tough table. Then there was someone who went to Aruba, so I knew I was in for it. I actually did well until that table broke up. Moz, how'd you fare? I was the one talking to you as revlovejoy. Now - to my out hand - analysis please: I've played a little stupid and loose, up as far as 3k, now down to 935 chips. I get AQ suited in early-mid position, around 4 I think. no callers to the big blind. I go all in. Bad move in this position? Result - 2, count em, 2 callers. Scares me a bit. Flop comes with an ace, rainbow. Feel pretty good. Caller one goes all in, caller 2 calls. Turn, can't remember, river, 9. Caller 1 had A9suited, caller two had pocket 6s. I lose to someone who called an all in with 2/3 of his stack and A9. And though a 66 was better going in that AQ, who calls 2 people in with 66? So - was I a fool? Can I call this a bad beat? My last multi table I made it to the money, got antsy, called allin with AK. I got good feedback here that convinced me to only be the raiser with AK/AQ, not a caller of a major raise. OK, so this time I was the raiser, did the others make bad calls? If so, I can deal with fate, and call it a beat, if it's a leak in my game, I need to know to fix it. Thoughts appreciated - I can take the criticism. PS - someone at that first table said something very smart - "I can't win the tournament at this stage, I can only lose it." - I will tattoo that on the back of my hand for next time I go online! | ||

| There is no way u can fold after the flop with this board and only a small amount of chips. I would call every time in this position because so often u will be winning and triple up and get the bb and sb money. How much u raised before the flop according to the blinds is the only debate here | ||

I went all in preflop, Andrew W, 22. Oct 2003 14:40 | ||

| I was all in pre flop - sorry, should have been clearer. A9 called me, then 66 called. on flop A9 bet all in, 66 called again. Was all-in preflop appropriate? With my all-in, were their calls correct? I would say no, but I'm just steamed at the beat, so I may be biased. Did we all play it wrong? | ||

| i lose alot with AQ. the last live tourney i was in a picked up AQ and went allin, was called be A8 and flopped a ace followed by a 8. i was on tilt. at first i thought i didnt take responsiblity, then i realized i played it terrible. if i had made a nice raise and a allin on the flop i would at least of had a shot to have him fold. phil hellmuth has said he has lost more with AQ than any other hand and i believe him. but asdide from that, people go all in preflop way to much online and ive learned it the hard way not to if i can avoid it, especially in early position. | ||

| What were the blinds at this point? Going all in with AQs is fine as long as you only have enough money for a couple times around the table. If your chips would last longer than that then I think a pot sized bet (or 3x the big blind) is more appropriate. | ||

| Hey Andrew - I know I've played at your table recently at UB. I remember the Username "revlovejoy"--didn't know that was you. I don't remember what we were playing or when, but I usually play SNG after 9:00pm Central--either $5 10-handed, $10 10-handed or $10 6-handed. I also hang out in the lower blind NL rooms. Maybe it was one of those? I don't remember how we did or what we were playing (with my run lately you probably knocked me out), but I'll keep an eye out for you. - Bart - | ||

| Hey Andrew- I knew that name was familiar, but I thought it was just from seeing you at the tables. :) Then you asked about UPF... I did ok. The cards dried up about ten minutes before the money, but I was pretty heavily stacked at that point (about 5th or so). The blinds were going up fast, and I wasn't getting anything worth playing in any position, but the next thing I knew, we hit 40 players ($$), and the next payout increase was at 30. I tried to bide as much time as I could, but I started to get frustrated and tried to make some things happen with marginal hands, which hurt my stack more. I made one really critical error with the only decent hand I had, and it was this that really buried me. I was in the SB and get JJ. I think the blinds were at 600/1200, and I had only about 7000 or 8000... it was raised to 3000 ahead of me, and I called instead of re-raising. To make matters worse, the flop came Axx and I check-folded. I ended up pushing all-in a short time later with something like 66 after getting blinded down to almost nothing, and got called by a big stack with A2s who caught an A on the flop. So I busted in the mid-30s. As for your hand, I would have done exactly the same. -Moz "That's excellent. We knew you'd agree. The companies will be very pleased." | ||
