Juicy 2/4 game on UB last night!, Eman, 22. Oct 2003 06:35

I entered in a wild loose 2/4 game last night on UB. Usually I wait for the BB, but i posted anyway one off the button. I did not know the texture of the table yet, and boy I wish I did. I get dealt 45s one off the button with my BB already posted. UTG bets, EP raises, MP calls, LP calls, I call the one bet, and the BB calls, Pot is 6-way.
Flop comes:
Kh 9s 10s. BB checks, UTG bets, EP raises, MP call, I call, BB calls,
Turn is 2c
BB checks, UTG checks, EP bets, MP calls, I call, BB and UTG calls
River is Ks.
BB bets, UTG raises, EP reraises, MP caps,
Its a capped bet to me and I fold. I thought I definetly had the lower flush, and I might be up against a Boat.
BB had K6
UTG had JJ
EP had A10
MP had A9
BB takes down a huge pot that I would have won. I think I made the right play, but I was a little annoyed with the way they played this hand. But then thought how great this table is. If I only knew the texture of this table, I might have called that last bet . I stayed at this table for about 2 hours and won $200. After the few maniacs busted out the table tightened up and I left.

I also wanted to know what people think of post the blind out of turn instead of waiting for the BB. I usually wait and maybe get a little read on the table texture. What do most people do?

If I am under time pressure, i.e. playing at work during lunch, I will always post except in EP. Otherwise I usually wait unless I intentionally want to project an image of being more clueless that I probably am. Any time I see a new player wait for the BB it alerts me to a potentially better than average opponent.

ok ummm just asking here cause of a comment you made
what exactly were you hoping came after the flop to call all the bets you did afterwards?
i can understand being afraid of a full house but if your afraid of a bigger flush shouldnt you have folded after the flop?

personal experience
years ago played a hand where i made a flush on the river using the single 4 in my hand i folded and the winner had the single duece, taught me a lesson in low limit games, call on the end if you have any reasonable kind of hand and pot odds are say greater than 10 to 1, second never be afraid of a bigger flush if only 3 of the suit are on board, sure once in blue moon it will happen but its still worth calling with *noone says you have to raise/reraise with it*

went back and read the betting to make sure
im seeing 24 preflop
20 flop
20 turn
40 to get to you
thats 16 to call a 104 pot or 6.5 to 1 not counting any other calls and from what you said they all called to show their cards
you lose to
KK
KT
K9
TT
99
K2
and just about the only player who can beat you is the EP *only one who bet the turn cant imagine if any of the players had had one of the above hands they wouldnt have raised the on the turn*

totally unrelated to whether you should call or not, if you call and win the hand your set for life at the table, you got to win a pot you got to show down a somewhat junky hand that just happened to get there and you should get all the action you could ever want.

in answer to the posting question
easy answer, why did you sit down at THAT table? if it was random and you have no clue then i would wait for the BB if on the otherhand you picked the table cause of its looseness then i would post late, you might get lucky and be able to win a hand with some real trash and be able to show it and advertise *one of the guys* and your image will be set for a long time

thanks for the advice. I guess I should have called, it was a huge pot. When the early EP player came to life on the river K (spade), I asked myself what cards could these players have if they stayed through to the river with all the raises?..... My read was wrong because I did not know how loose/aggressive the table was........

one trick i use
look at pot size and how many are seeing the flop either or both can tell you lots. if pots are huge but few see the flop think maniacs, pots small but lots see the flop think calling stations, pots large and lots see the flop think nirvana but realize your fluctuations will go up most likely.

very rough guidelines
10 player tables only
6+ BB pots potentially good table
35%+ see flop looks loose

Just wondering, if not the flush, what hand were you expecting to catch when you called two more bets with a 54 suited?

yes, and if you do call all those bets cold, please call the river. why not? its funny when i see super loose preflop, flop and turn, then weaktight on the river
