Hourly rate Playing 3 - 6 holdem, ShootEmUp, 22. Oct 2003 06:13

Recently a friend of mine stated he can make 50 $ an hour in a 3 - 6 game on the internet.
This is ridiculous to think this after playing for 1 month.
He has played live for 4 years for fun.
I told him if he is the best player in the game a big bet an hour could be maintained. I know the rake is high at these limits and there will only be a few winners.
I play around the 50 to 100 range and hate to see this friend of mine make incorrect implications about his gain.
I know he will read this so any other opinions on what he can expect to make in the long run.
I told him the answer but he does not seem to believe me.

well, whats great about poker is that it tests your assumptions. he will find out the hard way. people like you, me and the uPFrs would prefer to listen to knowledgable players opinions than make costly mistakes.
if he has unreasonable expectations about that, then im sure there are many others.

I've made $50 an hour in a 3/6 internet game. Come to think of it I've made $100 an hour in a 3/6 internet game...actually while I'm on the subject, I've lost $200 an hour in a 3/6 internet game...

Nobody maintains an 8BB an hour ratio for the long haul playing one table...

from what i have seen the rake on 3/6 games is very low *its rounded in players favor*
tell him if he can make $20 an hour with over 1000 hours logged in 3/6 he is doing fantastic and should think about moving up in limits

If he is playing multiple tables this is very possible. I generally play 4 tables at once and make very near this figure per hour at 3-6. These results have been obtained over nearly 3 years of internet play averaging around 25 hours a week or so.
