I was curious to what extent rocks generally vary their play according to positional play. I say this because I am planning on going to a casino for the first time and i plan on just chilling out getting comfortable at the table and in the meantime playing super tight. I figure that by doing this I will acustom myself to the new conditions. I was considering playing only Sklansky's group 1,2 from up front and then loosening up to group 3 in MP and then even 4 in LP assuming it isn't too expensive. My objective isn't to make money, just break even keep my variance low and experience the new scenery. Maybe after I feel comfortable I might loosen up a bit. Do my starting hand selections seem appropriate for my goals? Too tight? Too loose? This is not at all normally my play style but I have only ever played with friends at local games. Any input would be very helpful. Thanks.

for the first time doing anything, caution should be used, so playing tight is very good. i would suggest not playing super duper duper tight. just be aggressive when you should be, dont play scared.

Also remember that just sticking to a certain range of starting hands will not keep you even/make you money. The big problem I forsee is if you're this strict and rigid up front than you might be too tight/strict later in hands and cost yourself money (profit or your own) because you're almost playing scared or limiting your options.

Certainly use caution and play a little tighter while you get comfortable, but remember everything you've learned from those home games too. I'm sure you'll realize quickly that the lower limit B&M games are not that much different than your home games anyway.

My suggestion would be to maybe forgo some of the more tricky plays until your comfortable. Maybe skip on trying to bluff pots, I remember my heart racing the first time I played live...

Lay off trying to steal blinds, tighten up considerably more when your in the first few positions, but play your normal game when your on or near the button.

Good luck!
