Playing 3-6 at B&M with the usual suspects. Im dealt AJd on the button UTG calls(textbook calling station- only time shes bet when checked to is with aces full).MP players fold I raise sb calls BB and UTG call. Flop: Js-6s-2h. Sb bets BB calls I raise. SB BB call EP barely calls after much deliberation. Turn: 9s. spades get there but its checked around to me I put the sb on J- no kicker, bb no idea 1 spade possibly, I am sure ep has 1 spade and a deuce. I bet sb calls bb folds ep calls reluctantly again. River: 10s. Wtf is going on here? sb checks ep bets after looking back at her hand twice. I contemplate a call for about .000001 seconds and muck my hand. Sb shows me J8o and mucks like he had the winner. As the dealer pushes the pot to her she accidentally flips her hand over as she tosses it in. Guess the cards and win a prize(false advertising). Also i would like to know peoples opinion on making a crying call at the river in such a situation. thx Table Captain

ive made the call with KK or AA in that spot. im not it was the right play, but it was heads up and and had a lot of chips in the pot. ive also layed it down, so im not really sure one way or the other. i would lean towards folding. but its a great spot to bluff in. ive seen more bluffs in that spot than almost anywhere. if u pick up on the bluff, obviously call.

My guess to her hand is that she had 78 and the 8 was of spades.

if she did have a spade it was a pathetic one, like a 2 or something.

I fold. This falls into my "if 1 card can beat me" category, it is easier to fold the river for 1 bet. Also consider two other things: she got interested only after the 4th spade came and there was someone else behind you who would have potentially checked KJ or AJ (with a spade) in an effort to try to get someone to bluff at it.

My guess is that she had something like JT with the T of spades.

if thats the case, shorn, then the deck is rigged.

Right...based on your read of the EP player. If I read your post correctly, she only bets when she has the nuts or near-nuts. On the river, she bet. QED, she has the nuts or near-nuts--and has you beat!

Against a normal player, I'd consider a crying call or even a bluff-raise. The pot is laying you outstanding odds (about 9:1, I think), so you should call if your hand has any reasonable chance of winning. But, if your read on EP was correct, you have exactly zero chance of winning of this hand and might as well cut your losses.

side note. i think a player that realizes that you have a nut image of them is set up perfectly to bluff at this point on the river.

I would of realized that I was more then likely beaten and then called anyway. This pot is giving you 12:1 odds for the crying river call, why laydown TPTK against a possible runner runner flush for one bet...this was the perfect place for her to bluff you...she had played like a rock and probably realized that you knew this and now with an ugly board she bluffs and you muck...the whole table just learned to bluff the river against you for one lousy bet...make the call, you only have to win one of these hands to be way ahead in the long run.

Several things in the reply to your reply. I do nothave TP/TK i have top pair third best kicker. second why would a loose/passive calling station bet the river against multiple players after barely calling the whole hand- this just screams one spade to me. After playing with her for several hours it was quite clear she had no perception of the flow of the game, what player might be betting what hand with a certain type of board, also she has played A-anything suited or not. So when she barely calls the whole time and then shows strength on the end i KNOW she has a flush. ANd BTW my read was dead on and i saved bets. I wish someone really would try to bluff me off with one lousy bet because if i have the best of it im gonna call and im gonna laydown when im sure i am beaten- thats just good poker.

i agree with you. (im the one who also put her ona 2 , heh)
but if this girl were a good player you agree that this would be a great spot for a bluff? of course. i would have folded.
