| First, my apologies if this should be in the Tournament Poker forum, thought it would be more of a strategic question though. I've been playing in some 1-on-1 SNGs at Ultimate Bet lately. Just the $5 or $10 Heads Up SNGs for now. I'm basically a break even player at those, whereas in the low-limit ring games (like real low, .50/1 games) I'm a slow steady winner. I feel more comfortable in a ring game as I feel I have a good grasp on position and starting hand requirements. I know I need to be more aggressive heads up, so I'm working on that. Anyways, I guess I could use some insight on starting hands and how to approach them in a 1-On-1 SNG. In particular, I struggle with hands like non-suited Aces or non-suited Kings with a weak kicker pre-flop. Should I be raising with these types of hands preflop most of the time? Against a tight player, I definitely am. But sometimes takes a little bit to figure out if my opponent is a rock or not. I don't have a problem playing against aggressive players in a 1-on-1 SNG, I find it pretty easy to turn their aggression against them. But against players who are tight-aggressive or just plain rockish, I think I need some insight on how to approach them in a 1-on-1 SNG environment. I have noticed I tend to fall into the habit of making pot sized bets, which isn't bad if I hit my hand. If the turn comes up with a scare card, I have no problem firing off a bluff, but when the river doesn't help my hand further, I have difficulty in figuring out the best way to proceed. Should I be varying my betting structure instead? Maybe just bet the minimum every time so nobody knows if I'm on a hand or not? Finally, overall in general, are there certain starting hand requirements I should be following in a 1-on-1 SNG setup? Any assistance/insight appreciated. Thanks! | ||
