| I was just wondering if image has a lot to do with the pros consistantly getting in the money. I mean watching WPT, I seen phil ivey bet on Q6 and get raised with AQ from ? and phil thinks a bit and goes all in, ? folds. Another example phil H has pocket 77's and bets and another guy has J10. calls and reraises with 3 jacks, phil raises and he folds. I guess intimidation as a Pro does has its advantages. How do you guys play againist a well known player when he makes a move on you? | ||

| Well I've never played against the pros, but in a tournament I try to be the one making the moves rather than the one having them made on me. When in these situations it really isn't about what cards you have, it's about what your opponent has and what your opponent thinks of you. If you present a tight, tough image and you pick the right moment to go all in, people will be forced to lay down hands like AQ (in fact this exact thing happened to me the other night- I went all in over the top with A8 and the original raiser folded AQ). If you let yourself get intimidated you will get beat, and you don't have to be a pro to intimidate others. Eli on 21. | bold move. I have been in a ssimiiar situation and i got moved off the hand. I had 10k, and the chip leader had 26k. 9players left, money spot is 7. I raised with A10 he smooth calls. FLOP COMES 10 6 2 rain bow, i bet 2k, he moves all in and i ponder and ponder and fold. So, i guess u can moved people off top pair. with a flop like that. | ||

| In my situation he was in EP and came in pre-flop with a decent raise, I suspected he had something like A with a strong kicker, or maybe a medium pair. I went all in over the top from the button, which would have put him all in as well. When it comes down to it, most people don't want to risk their whole tournament on hands like AQ. I had an OK enough hand that I could still catch something if called, but clearly I didn't want to be called and knew he was the kind of player that wouldn't go all in with a coin toss. But it's important not to pull those moves too much, people will know you're stealing and will be more apt to call. Pick your moments. Eli on 21. Oct 2003 16:44 tron wrote: > bold move. | 2 things i would say 1) You have to remember that the WPT coverage shown, as i understand it, is the final table after 4 days of play so any image will be based on 4 days of play not just what edited highlights you see on TV. 2) AQo or AQs really isnt a great hand to be calling all in ( see post the other day titled " All in " ) on 21.
