Playing 20 - 40 at B&M with a table full of fish. theres one gambler, one calling station and one player who bets every time its checked to him..... no matter what. I am in seat 4 calling station seat 1, gambler in seat 2, auto bettor directly to my left(which i am loving). I have been playing for an hour and the only 4 pre flop raises were made by me with AKs, AK, KK, QQ all of which were called to showdown which i won. I pick up black threes in the SB, Folded around to s1 call, s2 call, button calls. I decide to raise here hoping to instill a little fear in my opponents if a scary board comes (A,K,Q) on the flop, BB studies his cards and makes a weak call, s1,s2,button all call. Flop is 10-3-7 with 2 clubs & 1 heart. I definitely do not want to give a free card here however the BB seemed weak preflop so i am not sure he will auto bet this time. I check anyway to give him a chance and he checks too (should have trusted my read?) i am saved when s2 bets out and button calls. I pop it here to make a club draw/ staright draw pay, Everyone calls. Turn is heart deuce a great card for me. I lead the turn thinking no one will bet if i check; BB folds s1 calls,s2 raises, button folds i reraise(from the play of the hand i am 95% sure i have the best hand) s1 folds, s2 calls - heads up. River is a K hearts ; no club draw completes , no straight draw, and i feel like the backdoor hearts are a longshot from the way he played back at me on the turn, so i bet out and get raised, i think for a while about reraising but decide to just call. i figure he would not raise on the end to push me out when i had been the agressor most of the hand. He flips over AJ hearts for the nut flush. he had no pair on the flop and caught runner runner hearts to bet my set. I would like to hear opinions on how i played the hand and any advice on alternate courses of action I.e flop and turn play. thanks in advance. TabLE Captain

Hey "Rodney"!

I think you played your hand well on the flop and the turn, but I don't agree with your pre-flop raise. You were at a table full of fishies, you had one "gambler", and one complete calling station! How did you think that you were going to get respect by putting in a raise with 3-3 after three players already limped in! You stated that perhaps you could put some 'fear' into them if the flop came up with a bunch of scary cards like, A-Q-K. (Did you really think that a gambler, and a player who was just a complete calling station would fold there if they caught any piece of that flop at all?) Yikes!

I do like the way you played it on the flop and I agree that leading out on the turn was your best play as well......but I don't think that I would have 3 bet the guy on the river, so I think your decision to just call his raise now was correct also. With the pot being 2 bets coming in, players 'will' peel cards off the flop, especially if they have overcards that they think they're drawing live to, thus, the runner, runner (by accident) flush draws can also be a pretty safe assumption when you also take into factor the tendencies of the players who were involved in this hand with you. (tough hand. better luck to you).

well put. that sounded like a 6-12 game to me btw, must be nice. also, ive played with younger players like yourself where they had the same issue, and i saw it as a very positive thing. its good to be underestimated.

Captain.... I would never check to someone and hope he bets so you can raise. You need to bet your trips when flop lays down. Start out betting aggressive. When the AJ H's was checked to, he figured he would bet to scare a few off and hopefully hit is J or A on the turn. If you come off aggressive as soon as your trips hit, you may be the one to get a few seats out of the hand. He would have prob still called, but at least he is thinking twice because he figures you are playing the10 high kicker. When the turn comes and his A or J still doesnt hit...you need to bet it again and make him think about paying for his flush draw. After all, if everyone would have checked after flop when you let them and his hearts didnt hit...you would have been missing out on money. I never let trips go by me w/o a bet unless the flop is all one suit. Good luck.
