I was wondering how much a good dollar per hour would be for someone playing 3/6 or 5/10. online. Right now I am sitting at 15 dollar/hour in a 3/6 after 1500 hands. Am i missing some bets or is that reasonable?

2Big Bets an hour is pretty standard for B+M(Brick and Mortar).

I usually take 3-5BB per hour online. So you're right on track...

Yes, I agree that is a good rate, but 1500 hands is not very many to give you a true rate. Keep accurate records and keep playing well.

you're right, ive played over 1500 hands in 2 days online. tens of thousands would be a start for it to be more accurate

Sounds like you're up about $450 after about 30 hours of play, correct? Not enough hands to make any judgments about.

Well, it looks like you guys are right. About ten minutes after i posted this i went on a downturn where i got a number of bad beats (AKs to 93o in a 150 dollar pot). I'm sure some of those beats i could have saved a few dollars from better play, but anyways its part of the game. Right?

You're right, 1500 hands is not enough to make a judgement and I meant to make note that I knew that.

Roy, you say that 15$ an hour is damn good with 3/6. I would have thought more like 20-25 dollars an hour would be considered good. What about 5/10, 10/20, 15/30? In these types of games online, would your BB/hour expectation increase or decrease when you move up in limits? Also, what about 5/10 shorthanded vs. full table. Would your BB/H expectation increase here? I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm trying to get an idea on what I would expect from a good player vs. someone who breaks even. Thanks guys

Jon

If you are playing solid poker online, and you can easily spot 2 not so great players at the table, you should expect to make at least 2 BB an hour. I think if you are playing at limits you are comfortable with and you are a very good player you should probably see more than that. If you're not making 2BB an hour then you probably need to examine your play very closely!

Poker is a game where there is no absolute right or wrong answer, therefore you should always be striving for X+1 BB / hour where X is whatever you're currently making.

If you play better shorthanded than you can absolutely make more money per hour as you will see more hands, but you can also lose more, and you should expect to see much bigger fluctations both ways.

Often when I find I'm losing a little bit of money, or not really winning much I'll look around and realize that I haven't picked up on a particular player at the table making multiple mistakes, which is usually when I go sit somewhere else...

I would like to make a related comment about this BB/hour issue which might help explain some of the outrageous figures we hear (6-10 BB/hour or more). I have talked to several people who play multiple tables online and consider them as one session. This cannot be correct if you want to compare online to B & M play, or even one session to another. If you play at 2 tables for 1 hour, that is 2 one hour sessions. Otherwise, you would be showing twice as many BB/hour as you actually earned. Is this right, or is my thinking confused? Let me know what you think.
