Short stacked in a cash game, Schuster, 19. Oct 2003 21:01 | ||

| A recent rereading of Sklansky's tournament book combined with a recent post about how much to bring to the table has gotten me to thinking. The general consensus is that, in a limit game, you should have enough in front of you to play a hand to the river, because if you do pick up a strong hand, you want to get as much out of it as possible. If you get below that amount, you should buy more chips in case you pick up that strong hand. But, after some thought, I'm pretty sure that this is not always the case. I'll hold my thoughts for now, but I will propose a hypothetical for discussion. You were UTG in a $10/20 game and just lost a huge pot. You have a few grand in your pocket and you plan on staying in the game for a while, but you are down to $10 in chips in front of you, just enough to pay the big blind. Should you buy in for more? What if you have $15? Or $20? Or $30? Is there a cutoff point where you should buy in or not buy in? How would your decision change based on the table texture? I'm looking forward to reading what others think. Lee | ||

| i would most definatly rebuy in for $600. i wouldnt give up a bet in the BB without chips to defend it or in case i pull a big hand. going allin when you plan to rebuy is IMO just giving your money away. | ||

| I'm trying to remember which book talked about this but I can't... I believe the recommendation was that it depends on table position, if you're closer to UTG you should be more inclined to remain shortstacked for the time being, and if you're closer to the button you should be more inclined to to rebuy. Makes sense to me I suppose, I don't remember what they recommend doing in the blinds, I personally feel that having enough to only pay the big blind is too much like gambling and would probably rebuy at that point... | ||
