| Has anyone ever dealt w/ staking another player or being staked? I play online w/ limits up to 5/10 and occassionaly 10/20. I've done lots of reading for mid and high limit games, and I've made some trips to the casino to work on picking up tells. The problem is that I only have about a 5k bankroll and if I was to withdraw it from my online accounts I wouldn't be properly bankrolled for my online games. I want to play 10/20 and maybe 20/40 at the B+M's, and my plan was to wait until I had about 15k and withdraw 10k to take a shot at it. However I've had a couple people at work express interest in staking me. Any suggestions regarding how to take them up on this? Should I take 50BB or 100BB? Obviously if I lose its on them, what happens if(when) I win? | ||

| I wouldnt do it for a couple reasons. First, I think you will feel added pressure to win which cant be good especially when you're going to be nervous anyway after moving up. Second, you are likely to lose those friends if you lose their money. But if you do do it, I would at least draw up an informal agreement. Lets say Friend A gives you $5000, Friend B gives you $5000 and you put up $5000. I would consider that 33% of your winnings belong to each friend (33% being yours of course). When their winnings equals $5000 I would give them their winnings and their original $5000 back and continue on your own. That way they know they are either going to make or lose $5000. Moneymaker did something similar to this for the WSOP. I believe he kept about $1 million of the $2.5 million because he had been loaned that percentage of the entry fee by various relatives. | ||

| I thought Moneymaker won his seat at PokerStars for $40 in an online tourney? What would his relatives have to stake him for? | ||

| Assuming Party didn't pay for travel, thats one sorry-ass accountant if he can't pony up the cash to fly out and stay in a hotel for a few days. | ||

| Well first of all, he didnt win his entry on Party. He won it on PokerStars. That explains why he had a PokerStars shirt and hat on every day. Also, as I understand it, he borrowed the money to play in side tournaments and cash games before the real one started. If I remember correctly from the article I read, he lost all the money he brought with him and was going to take more from his bank account (which was quite empty) before his wife told him "NO". Then the WSOP started and the rest is history. On a side note, about a month ago, I was watching him play a guy Head to Head in $1000 SNG's. I watched him win 3 in a row. The guy got disconnected for several minutes in the last one so I started talking to him in the chat box. He told me they were actually playing for $4000 each ($3000 on the side). He was mad because he was about to beat the guy but they had an agreement that if one of them got disconnected the $3000 side bet was canceled. The guy was blinding out quickly. I was surprised when the guy reconnected just in time to be beat for real so Moneymaker got paid. | ||
