| I have never been to a B&M poker room and have only seen live action on TV. It looks like the dealer takes all the cards and "mixes" them on the table. They way a child would shuffle. Is this a common practice? I think I saw the dealer in the WSOP do a real riffle shuffle, but it was only once. I know it doesn't make for great TV to see the dealer shuffle, but I was wondering if there was a standard shuffle routine. Table mix (which doesn't seem to helpful) Then a set number of riffle shuffles (maybe it depends on the casino or dealer) And who is cutting the deck? And is it okay to skip the cut? | ||

| the table shuffle has a name *forget what its called* yes there is a standard shuffle *too long since i paid attention to remember* the table shuffle isnt after everyhand since it wastes more time than a normal shuffle but its felt that it does a slightly better job of breaking up clumps of cards so they might do it after so many hands | ||

| My wife would resent that "The way a child would shuffle" comment. We both play Magic the Gathering (MtG)and she uses the "table shuffle" exclusively because she can not stand to have her cards bent for a riffle (sp?) shuffle. In MtG, the cards are somwhat unique and have real monetary value (up to $500 per card in some cases) so she does not want to risk any damage to any of her cards. It randomizes fairly well and since she does it on felt, the cards emerge shuffled, unbent and unscrached. Once I saw them doing that on the WPT, I bowed my head and begged forgivness for the ribbing I gave her in the past. Mss | ||

| Just read the original question: Order is: Scramble, shuffle, shuffle, riffle, shuffle, box - cut. The dealer cuts. | ||

| I know they wash or scramble the deck when a new deck is brought in. They will also do it at a player's request. I'm not sure if dealers do it at their own discretion. A rule of thumb I've heard is that it takes 7 standard shuffles to fully randomize the deck. Seems to me I remember dealers normally shuffling about 3 times though. This is what happens when you can't sleep and the games are too dry to play. You start making posts about shuffling. lol | ||

| Yes, they even scramble new decks before putting them in the shuffle machine at my B&M... virtually the only time you will see a shuffle. -Moz "There's too much caffeine in your bloodstream, and a lack of real spice in your life." | ||

| I was a little bleary eyed when I made my post. Of course Angel is the truely qualified expert on this. So they scramble the deck before every deal! I haven't played live in about 10 years so it's been a while. The dealers are so fast and smooth I must have hardly noticed them doing it after a while. | ||

| Actually many cardrooms have discontinued the 'scramble' .. especially in the big games. It's used mainly in Jackpot games to prevent the dealer running up a 'slug' of aces. Angel is right-on ... the sequence is: scramble, shuffle, shuffle, box, shuffle, square-up and clear the deck, cut, pick it up and deal. This is standard in Calif cardrooms. | ||

| Regardless of the size of the game - I wouldn't recommend not scrambling when Johnny Chan is getting dealt in. :) | ||
