| 5 minutes ago, I was knocked out of a $200 NL single table tournament at PartyPoker. I was dealt pocket A's in early position, and I raised 200. A player in late position came over the top, and put me on a decision to risk my whole stack. Of course the decision was easy, but the results were disastrous. I watch as the board plays out: 3s 9d 8c 3h Ks And of course, the other guy is sitting there with pocket cowboys... I know neither one of us made an incorrect play - but the problem I'm having with these situations is how I feel afterwards... More often than not I simply want to drive my fist through a wall. How should I deal with situations like this in the future - to ensure that my emotions do not get the best of me. Any and all words of advice are greatly appreciated. | ||

| That's a tough one, but not that uncommon in NL. The best thing you can do is teach yourself that the only thing under your control is making the correct decision at each point in the hand based on the imperfect information you are given. The actual outcome has little relevance to your long-term profit potential. The players that make the most correct decisions over time will get all the money. Also, if you find yourself too frustrated after a beat like this, take a break from the game, go to the gym, and read a few passages from Zen and the Art of Poker and/or The Tao of Poker. These will help re-focus your mind prior to going back to the table. Good luck, Steve | ||

| The way i deal with poker luck is to not evaluate my poker on results but on decisions made. If i lose money but ' had the best of it ' or played correctly then i am not too concerned the only time i get angry is when i make a bad decision based on all the facts available. In this situation you both played correctly and you just got unlucky, only worry about things you can control not those you cant. Yours cliched :-) Chasepoker | ||

| Hey Garry, 'Tough hand you lost, but you know that you had way the best of it coming in, and you made the correct decision. That's all you can expect from yourself or your emotions are going to get the best of you each time something like that happens. Being able to control your emotions is very important, because emotions can (and will) interfere with the next important decision that you have to make, and it's a part of staying disciplined. It keeps us from tilting and/or paying off hands that we know we shouldn't, and it keeps us focused on the big picture. There is also the luck factor that we can't avoid, and it's appearance will show its self more in tournament play, and it will definitely 'sting' more as well, because once you're done, you can't go into your pocket and take out more money! But in the long haul, your solid poker decisions gets the money. 4P- | ||

| As long as you play within your bankroll, the only things that should upset you are bad decisions... or if the guy did it with K9 =) but that'll only reinforce him to do it next time. I've noticed I don't get upset by luck if I have my sufficient bankroll, but do if I ever cash out too much and not leave enough in my account to handle the swings (granted the money cashed out is still technically in my bankroll, its just a pain to re-deposit) | ||
