| " Any two cards can win" ....I hear it all the time. And it is true....any two cards can win....But most of them will not win often enough for you to show a profit. Particularly if you are new to the game, you need to be highly selective in your starting hands. When you get a better feel of the game, can read your opponents hands better, attain good strategy knowledge, you can loosen up your starting hand requirements a LITTLE. So keep in mind....TIGHT IS RIGHT! Roy Cooke | ||

| Roy- Good reminder. I would just add that tight is ALWAYS right in EP. The loosening up should pretty much only come when you have better position. Far too many bets can be lost by playing any marginal hands upfront no matter how good a player you think you are. Steve on 17. | Great info Roy. One other thought for everyone to keep in mind is to not have a "favorite hand." Way to often I hear other players talk about their favorite hand and it bugs the hell out of me. Usually it is a hand that most players wouldn't limp in with but these yahoos raise with a trash hand because they got lucky with it once or twice in the past. | ||

| Speaking of favorite hands...the other day I was playing and a guy raised preflop in MP with 5 9. Believe it or not the flop came 5 5 5. I had 10 9 suited. I dont remember the whole hand but what I remember is that when the turn was a 9, I went all in (SNG). He called of course and knocked me out. When someone asked about raising with 5 9, he said he raised because he was 59 years old. | ||

(j-10, q-j, 2-2 etc) especially good one was a older gentleman who stated over and over that K deucey was his "lucky" hand, the funny part is when during that 7 hour seesion i saw him take down 3 pots with it, and unfortunately one pot from me when i held A-K for top pair and he hit his 2 on the river. maybe there is something to the "lucky hand. lol, j/k ------------------------------------------------------------- "I prefer talking with old persons of the female sex who peddle family gossip; next, with the insane-and last, with very sensible people" -S. | I was teaching a friend of mine to play HE and said: "If you stick with tight starting requirements, I can't guarantee you'll be a consistent winner. But if you start playing any two cards, I CAN guarantee you'll be a consistent LOSER." It remains one of my wiser statements on the game! | ||
