| Since we seem to have added a lot of new faces over the past few months, let me re-post that "we" are attempting to have a grand meeting of those that post on UPF at next years WSOP. If anyone is lucky enough to play in it, great, but that's not the purpose. We just want to get together, and that seems like a time that we could all plan ahead for. I have taken on the task of organizing that which can be organized for such an event. I have sent out details for the WSOP to approximately 25 posters already, but am now offering it to those that may not have been around a few months ago. Email me at UPF2004WSOP@ev1.net if you are interested in getting on the mailing list (which has been non-existent lately, but shall pick up as I begin to hit up Binion's for updates) YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS DIES WITH ME, NO WORRIES. You may ask the others if you have doubts. Please include a first and/or last name, and your UPF handle as well. Thanks, RB | ||

| Even though I just started playing about 5 months ago, I'll be at the WSOP. Ive played mostly 1/2, 2/4 online and once in AC. Since playing online i have made close to $2000. I have about $13000 in life savings. Im taking my life savings and buying into the $10,000 buyin tourney. Anyone else going? | ||

| I looked at your post for a long time debating whether to respond or not. But I decided I had to - I realize that $13,000 is your money to spend as you wish, but I have to tell you that my stomach got queazy at the thought of you decimating your savings for a WSOP buy-in. I don't know how old you are - but when I turned 21 (1972) I came into about $10,000 from a trust fund (equal to about 30,000 +/- in today's dollars, I reckon). I spent the money on stuff (a car, etc.) over the next ten years or so and then it was all gone. Now.....had I invested that money instead in the stock market, I would not now be facing the fact that I will not be able to retire.... I guess I just want to caution you on spending your savings on a brief thrill and a loooooooooong shot for getting in the money, let alone winning the WSOP. Stories like Chris Moneymaker's are the one in a millions, and, given your short experience in playing poker, the odds are greater that your 10K will be dead money.....just think about it -- look at further down the road before you make that buy-in, OK? | ||

| Thanks for the advice. Im recently married. We have no kids yet. We both make pretty decent money. This money is just sitting in savings. We have our joint accounts for expenses, savings, mortgage, kids, etc... | ||

| OK - as long as you're going in with eyes wide open & your family is OK with it, than may all your flushes be royal and not down the drain! I normally don't like to meddle - but I literally get paid to hand out advice to young people, and, well, I couldn't resist. I just know from personal experience that if I knew then what I know now, I would have made a few different choices when it comes to finances. I'll look for you at the final table in '04! | ||

| Umm, the stock market is pretty risky. A lot of people I know lost their shirts. | ||

| Go for it! Win or lose the experience will be the nuts. Here are some words from others who agree with me: *Every man dies, not everyman truly lives - Braveheart *Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars. Les Brown *It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end. Ursula K. Le Guin *You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try. Beverly Sills *As long as you’re going to be thinking anyway, THINK BIG. Donald Trump *Adventure is worthwhile in itself. Amelia Earhart *Most people live and die with their music still unplayed. They never dare to try. Mary Kay Ash *Never let the fear of striking out get in your way. George Herman ("Babe") Ruth *You've got to get to the stage in life where going for it is more important than winning or losing. Arthur Ashe *I don't care if they eat me alive, I've got better things to do then survive. Ani Difranco | ||

| Hey Eman, have you considered the many satellite entries that can be won for far less than 10k? I would imagine if are good enough to win the WSOP, then you should definately be able to win a satellite entry for much less money. Just an idea... | ||

For $225 you can enter a Super-Satellite which awards seats -ie: if it pays 8 places then 8 people win a seat. For $50 you can enter a 1-table satellite which sends two players to the super-satellite. | ||

(alas, my last name is jostmeyer, not as sexy) this was my first online tourny (it was a freeroll) so i was at least happy about my in the money place! gearing up for next year, i would be stoked to get in to even the lowest level NLHE there, and it would be cool to see some UPFrs there ------------------------------------------------------------- "I prefer talking with old persons of the female sex who peddle family gossip; next, with the insane-and last, with very sensible people" -S. | And I had read that out of the 800+ players this year, only 68 of them actually ponied up the $10k to enter. Everyone else either won a sattelite or bought their entry from someone else who won a sattelite. I agree with the others- you're better off trying that route first. Eli on 17. | To respond to your original question, I have a list of over 30 posters from this site that are on the list to be updated about the UPF Meet 'n Greet that we're planning. How many will make it? Who knows, but we're trying. on 17. Oct 2003 08:01 Eman wrote: > Even though I just started playing about 5 months ago, I'll be at the WSOP. Ive > played mostly 1/2, 2/4 online and once in AC.
