| So I'm bored today when I should be working, instead I'd like to start a new post. We all know Roy and Mike and the others on the bio page, what about the rest of the frequent posters? Who are you? Where do you live, what do you do? What's your favorite Beatles song? It would be nice to know some of the people behind the glib screen names (like mine, thanks again Go Bears). I'll start: As y'all know, my name is Eli. I'm 29, live in West LA, play B&M at Hollywood Park and Commerce, and occasionally in Vegas. I work in the film business, in theatrical advertising for a film distributor. Favorite Beatles song would have to be "Something," or perhaps "Let it Be." Anyone else? Don't make me a wank for starting a post that gets no responses, let's hear 'em. Eli | ||

| My first name is Dave. I am a lawyer from Pittsburgh. Also 29 years old. Because Pittsburgh has no B&M casinos or a regular game that I know of, I play online pretty frequently. I usually play on UB. Recently, I have been traveling for business a lot (and a recent vacation) so I have tried my hand at a few B&M games when time permits. I don't have a favorite Beatles song, although Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" always make me hum along. -Hokie95 "Richard, do I have a mark on my face? My poker is play is strictly home games and on-line - no legal card rooms where I live.! | Ive only recently started posting but I love this forum and Im sure I will continue so I'll join in also. I am a police detective in a very large city. Ive been playing poker for years but have only been playing HoldEm seriously for about 3 months. I started playing play money and did pretty good but didnt enjoy it for obvious reasons. I then started playing real money (very small limits) and did quite a bit better. Ive averaged about 4.5 BB / hr over about 10000 hands so Im happy but still have a lot to learn. Ive decided I wont move up limits for a while although Im pretty sure I could by watching the tables at the next couple higher limits. Ive done a lot of reading (while playing) and am currently reading "Theory of Poker". I am also an avid woodworker. By the way, who are the Beatles? Just kidding, but I really dont like them. | ||

| Although I loved the Beatles at the time - especially the early stuff - I'm afraid I can't think of a single Fab Four song I can still tolerate. Neil Young has had more staying power with me. The best relatively recent song I've heard is "The Warmth" by Incubus. "Don't let the world bring you down. Not everyone here is that F-ed up and Cold. Remember why you came and while you're alive, experience the warmth before you grow cold" with Whale Songs for an introduction. My name is Lou. I have a Phd Candidate's degree in Mathematics from UCSD specializing in probabilty. I played Holdem in just about every Las Vegas Casino in the early 90's before moving back to San Diego. I am now semiretired and have been playing on line for a few months, mostly 3-6 and 5-10. | ||

| Lou, I have to agree, Incubus is definately one of the better bands on the modern scene. I say I don't like about 90% of new music put out, but incubus is definately a quality tune to me, and a lot of their more mellow songs get put on when I feel myself tilting online, Aqueous Transmission especially! Bought Lee Jones' book, played some for play money online then, when I felt confident enough, went up the road to Foxwoods. I play there about once a month now (around 200 hours so far), also in a home game with some friends (low stakes, beers and laughs mostly). Beatles are the most overrated band in my opinion, not bad just overated. Elvis is king. Snorbolus | ||

| 29 year old market research analyst in Texas while awaiting opportunity to be accepted into a federal law enforcement position. Played a little poker in college--more in grad school--a lot more in the last 2 years. My buddies and I play a home game tourney about once every 3 weeks (tomorrow, we have 17 confirmed players, $20 entry, $20 rebuys for 2 hours)...won $350 ($700 pot) 3 weeks ago. Had a good run for almost $300 for the first time in a casino playing $2/$4, although Hokie 95 doesn't believe me...lol. Sorry Hokie--I'll get off my flame and give you credit for some pretty good and insightful posts. Play online at PP--have profited about $600 over the course of 8 months, playing a lot of .50/$1, $1/$2 and a little $2/$4. Playing with my buddies from work (all market research analysts, so they are big into the math of it) has made me a lot better, and without a doubt, I love playing, either online but more so in person. Good luck with the playing... RW | ||

| Ok English lesson number one : Shermans = Americans ( Sherman Tanks = Yanks ) Scousers = people from liverpool Buskers = er, um, people who sing songs really badly in Railway stations and have a hat there expecting you to put a few coins in, normally found singing " Hey Jude " or " American Pie " :-) Chasepoker on 16. | Well, my name is Lee as you probably already know. I'm a 21 year old college student studying physics at West Virginia University. It's a great town, and it has slowly grown into my second home. Of course, my first home always has been and always will be Pittsburgh. I am not a huge Beatles fan, but I do have a lot of appreciation for their stuff. I'd have to say my favorite song is "Let It Be" simply because whenever I take a horrid online beat, I fire that on and it melts the anger away. My favorite Beatles album has to be Abbey Road, with Sgt Peppers taking a close second. I generally prefer the bluesy sound of Zeppelin though, with Houses of the Holy being my favorite album, and Going to California being my favorite song. Most of my real poker experience has come from online and play with my closest poker friends (2 guys). Anytime I get a live game, it's usually just for fun because the stakes are usually low. I generally play 3/6 online or the 30 and 50 dollar sit and go's, sometimes venturing into the 5/10. I'm definately a hold'em player, although I have recently been dabbling in omaha and omaha eight. I consider stud to be my weakest game, followed by stud eight. I've been playing poker since I was a kid, but only started taking it seriously a little over a year ago. On a side note, thanks for posting this Eli. After being a part of various internet forums for years, I have to say that this is the tightest knit of all of them, and I really love the atmosphere here. Getting to know everyone is a great bonus. | Eli et al: Good idea you had here. I enjoyed reading everyone's bio - here's mine: 38 yo professional originally from Alaska and now residing in southern California. Never played till I was an adult - first time back in Indio before Fantasy Springs. I worked as a dealer in private games after this back home in Alaska and began playing pro 12 years ago or so (been saying 12 yrs ago for long enough now that it's probably 15 now). I should add that I had a stint working as a silent prop at the Bike back in 99 and 00. Some might consider that semi-pro. Had a family disaster that equated to large six-figure medical bills after in 2001 which left me bankrupt including any kind of a bankroll. Took the next year and a half off from poker trying to recover emotionally and financially from 2001. Made it back this year - 18 months working a job that would hire me with nothing but poker on the resume hadn't done much in the way of restoring a BR but I had put together enough to make it to WSOP 03. Applied as a dealer and was back in the box for the first time in 12 years. I had a great gig there and dealt the final table of each event from #6-#34. ESPN wouldn't let me deal the final of the big one as they said they wanted clean cut and under 30 - this long-haired hippie type failed on both accounts. Anywho - I dealt 14 hours a day (dealing supers after the final table broke) 7 days a week for 42 days and created a BR - jumped in the car and headed back to Ca. Arrived and got to work. I play at Commerce and O11 mostly, although I might turn up nearly anywhere in SoCal. Plans for the future include winning a bracelet so when ESPN wants an interview I can tell em that their too young and their hair isn't long enough to talk to them. *weg* The other, more serious part of my plan is simply to become the best poekr player I can. I coasted on a modicum of talent and experience for most of 12 years. Even 1/2 BB an hour is OK if your playing high enough - but it isn't about the money anymore. I just want to find out how good I can become - and become just a little better than that. Beatles? They're good - but I'm more into Simon and Garfunkle, Peter Paul and Mary, Cat Stevens and like that. :) | ||

I read it and then went looking for more info on the internet and found this forum. I've since read Lee Jones' book and started to read Hold'em for advanced players, but decided I needed to reread Jones' book again. This forum is great I've learned a lot reading through all the posts. I have played online and had some success, but find I like playing at the local B&M a lot more. I'm not a Beatles fan listen mostly to modern rock.

| I'm a 22 yr. old grad from the University of Texas at Austin. I work for a dental office design company in Austin but I'm looking to do something else. I've only played in a casino three times (all at the Hollywood Casino in Bossier City). I've been playing Hold'Em for about 6 months but I guess I've gotten pretty lucky as I've built my bankroll up to about 2K. I play mostly online and in home games in Austin. I really want to move to LA in about a year with some of my friends, take a job for a while and hopefully start playing 10/20 to see if I can make it as a 'pro'. I play 15/30 online OCCASIONALLY (I don't know why I do this--actually I do-I remember reading a quote from Roy Cooke about the difference between protecting small and big bankrolls and a line about taking a shot at a high limit if you can change your life--that's what I'm trying to do I guess). Anyways that's enough about me. | ||

I play almost exclusively online at Party, though I will play on UB for the tournys. My wife and I will occasionly go to Pachanga or Vegas so she can hit the slots. You may assume my job on those trips is to keep her supplied with slot money from my poker winnings :-) My online winnings go to feed her Bingo habit. Our agreement is that she gets 20% of my cashouts for Bingo, the rest goes to the general fund. As for music, I have to vote for the "White Album", but I listen to anything from Bach and Mozart (especially good for online tourneys!) to Aerosmith and Def Leopard. As an aside, for those of you in SoCal, Pachanga is great! It is a full Vegas strip quality casino with a large and still growing poker room. A very class act indeed. Rooms range from $100 on weekdays to $200 on weekends.

Gary, My name is Brian and I am under 21 i live in the Phoenix/Metro area. They changed the age from 18 to 21 about 7 months ago and i had to pursue alternate routes to be able to gain admittance to the local cardroom. I play 6-12 mostly and clean up very nicely, however i have been playing 20-40 lately and have taken some very bad beats due to players trying to run over me because i am young and out of my league- as one guy put it(he was tilting badly and was a below average player on a good day so it didnt even bother me). Last night in fact i was playing 6-12 and took $1300 of the table after a 7 hour session. I have been adjusting my game to fact that i get looser calls and am the target of bluffs on more occasions and this has resulted in large profits due to the fact that with a non threatening board ex: 3s-6d-Kh-Qc-8s i will get called all the way down with AK after i raise preflop and lead on every betting round, with as little as Q9.I do not C/R very often because often people will raise me to try to push me off a hand and i can get 3 bets in. I just have to play solid poker because when i try to make a fancy play against the school of fish they are too dumb to have noticed it anyway and thus is a waste of time and bets. Just thought id share a little something from the underage perspective. Id like to hear some replies on some of the topics i have discussed. Table Captain

| Hi all My name is Mark and i live in northern British Columbia, Canada. I started to play 3 years ago and have been consistantly winning for 8 months, but have really turned it on in the last 3 months. I don't get to play B&M regularly anymore and only play online about 7-10 hours per week. But my winnings are funding trips to Edmonton, Alberta ( 4 poker rooms) and Las Vegas to play. I am 25 years old and graduated University as an Electrical Engineer. I worked in south-western Ontario (1 hour from Detriot, where i started to play) for 2 years and then moved out west. I have a (very)small business developing customized database applications on handheld computers for hospitals (patient info., workload statistics, etc). I live with a beautiful woman and we have 2 dogs together. We both love outdoor sports (climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, etc) and traveling. I normally play $5-10 online (pokerroom.com), but will play any game that looks good. I like hold'em most, but also like 7 and 5 stud and draw. I suck at O/8. Mark | ||

| Hi Eli, What a great idea!! I have so enjoyed all the posts here. I am a 49 year old news helicopter pilot in the Milwaukee area. I started playing poker online about 6 months ago. Bought a book about hold'em when I was invited to a home game and was too embarrassed to tell them I had no idea how to play. Book got me interested. I bought a few more books and then opened an account at Party. Started with ring limit games, but like the sit and goes much better (I enjoy playing short handed better than full table). Beatles? I like "Hey Jude" but was never much of a Beatle fan. Over the years I have to say I like the Eagles, Bob Seager, and Fleetwood Mac, just to name a few....... This is a very interesting group of people. I have very much enjoyed reading the posts here, and am learning a great deal from everyone. Kyle | ||

| I'm 35 and live just outside Phoenix. Married with 3 great kids, and work as a Commercial Insurance Underwriter. The B&M I've played the most is Casino Arizona, but play predominantly online at UB. I'm definitely a WPT recruit, but have been playing cards and gambling since I was in my teens (won my first $250 slot jackpot at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe at the age of 14). My dad, standing right next to me, told me to leave, and collected it for me. Now that's good parenting! I just accepted a job with my company which will move me to L.A. after the first of the year (will probably live in Orange County - do I have to call it The O.C. now?). Looking forward to playing at Commerce and The Bike. My screen name comes from the fact that I'm the biggest California Golden Bear honk in the world, and my favorite Beatles tune is Dear Prudence. Happiness is a Warm Gun isn't too bad either. Go Bears "Don't shoot him, that'll only make him mad." | ||

| Just to let you know ... all the old geezers aren't old MEN! Me, I've been playing poker for about 3 years now. Started out of boredom with circumstances of my life and it turned into a passion. Had some success. About a year ago, pesonal circumstances brought a huge failure that cost me my entire bankroll. I was crushed financially =and= emotionally -- I pretty much went all in with quads and got beat by larger quads. Call me a testament to "don't play with scared money" (or when one is facing major life issues). I didn't play at all for about 6 months. Then I scraped together the 15 bucks a month for Poker School Online and got back to playing. Life smiled a couple months ago so I took $100 to the local casino, put $40 into a tournament and walked out with $380. Cashed the next two tourneys too so had a bit of breathing room. Invested some at Party ($150), and $50 at UB and PokerStars. Not exactly high limit (smile). As of last night I'm up to $300 at Party and nothing at UB and 'Stars. Have cashed in 5/6 of the last SnGs I've played. Hope to keep it up and rebuild the bankroll ... and my confidence. Oh yes ... the name ... saw someone make a scoop with 22 once and say "Little Deuce Scoops!" Thought that was cool so adopted it as my name (some places). Beware of deuce hands ... they win often enough to upset one's competition. I'll play some just for that advertising. And beware of little old lady geezers. (smile) -- Deuce Scoops | ||
