| Couple questions regarding rebuy tourneys: -I assume that during the rebuy period, the play will be signifigantly looser. Should I adjust my play to take advantage of the fact that others will be playing poorer hands (being cognicent of the fact that I can also rebuy if I get busted a couple of times), or should I adjust my play to try and double or triple up quickly or else rebuy and try again? -After the rebuy period, I assume most player will change up and play super-tight. Is the play during this period different from, say, a normal freezeout tournament? Also, if my plan is to play more aggressively once the rebuy period ends, so that I can take blinds and raises off of more timid players, would this be correct? Or, is that the reasoning of most other players, so I should in turn play more tight and reraise them with premium hands only? -If the tourney offers an add-on, in which positions (chip-wise) would it be wise/unwise to purchase the add-on? Thanks in advance. | ||

Pick your moments. People will also limp more in the rebuy period, so keep that in mind when you're holding good drawing hands. You have the rebuy safety net, and the value in doubling or tripling up heading into the non-rebuy period is tremendous, it will allow you to play better later. > > -After the rebuy period, I assume most player will change up and play > super-tight. Is the play during this period different from, say, a normal > freezeout tournament? Not always super-tight until later in the tournament, but yes, tighter than before. The tournament is a freezeout after the rebuy period is over. Also, if my plan is to play more aggressively once the > rebuy period ends, so that I can take blinds and raises off of more timid > players, would this be correct? This is generally correct, and a good idea. Helps to come into the middle period with a healthy stack so that you can pull it off. Or, is that the reasoning of most other > players, so I should in turn play more tight and reraise them with premium hands > only? Not necessarily the reasoning, there still could be a lot of fish waiting to get picked off. But whether you follow your strategy above has to do with many variables- chip stack, stacks of your competitors, toughness of the table, etc. > > -If the tourney offers an add-on, in which positions (chip-wise) would it be > wise/unwise to purchase the add-on? There is some math to it, and it depends on how much the add on costs and how much you get, but in a low buy in tournament you should factor add ons into your budget, it can only help. > > Thanks in advance. | ||

| Thanks for your reply. In reference to my question about the play right after the rebuy portion, what I meant to say was that I could envision (pure speculation, of course) that right after the rebuy period, some players may get the "oh crap its for real now" mentality and play more tight than if they were playing in a non-rebuy tourney, and was just curious if anyone had any insights to whether this was in fact the case or not. | ||

| It's correct to an extent, but the tightening up is more of a gradual thing that continues to progress. Usually the best time to be particularly aggressive is right after the limits go up in each round, first hand or two people really tighten up. Eli on 16.
