...when people say how loose/crazy players in SoCal can be, consider:

tonight I played the $100 buy in NL tournament at Hollywood Park (a tournament punctuated by gunfire, since they were filming CSI outside). It's a single rebuy, so people are playing it more like a freezeout. We start with T500. On the very first hand, I get 55 in LP. I limp with a few others. The flop comes down 753, it's checked to me, I bet T100. UTG goes over the top all in. I call, he turns over A6, and I double up on the first hand.

It does, in fact, take all kinds.

305. Prize pool was around $50k. I finished about 75th when the straight I flopped got beat by a full house on the turn. Such is poker, I guess.

Where were you? Lots of NL dolts there, sounds like you would've feasted.

sounds like tournies here. my first live NL tourny last year here in bayarea(60buyin) there was a guy who went all in almost everyhand and lost. he re bought 10 times. i finished 4th and won $460, and he spent over 250 dollars, i guess he expected his expert play would win it and it would be a profitable strategy to rebuy over and over. and he was only one nutjob outta many. those low buyin multi rebuy tournies are so great for learning to deal with whackos and survive. but i guess there are whacks a single buys too....thanks wpt

Tonight at Commerce in 4-8 I saw two guys get into a pissing match pre-flop and end up all in against each other, to the tune of $150 each. When they turned their cards over, there was no shock at all- one guy had AA, the other had 66. Of course the latter won.

Just more evidence...

Funny. Last night down at Club Caribe, I had pocket aces and the other guy had 66. The flop came A62 rainbow and I checked to see what he'd do. He went all in (he didn't have enough to cover the blinds when they were going to get to him anyway) and I called. He's smiling as he turns over his trip 6's...and he's laughing hysterically when he sees my trip aces. I'd still rather have aces over any other pair any day of the week...
