My own strategy!, StraightFlush, 14. Oct 2003 15:59
View ( Message | Thread )       Return to Thread List
This is where I'm at so far I've been playing for about 2 months I started out playing by the book but have found myself playing my own strategy. Although I do use out's but I made my own system I believe my system of calculation is farely simple and accurate. And some may find it hard to believe but it works. I start out conservative and when I accumulate chip's I'm very dangerous. Sort of a Phil Ivey any advice to improve my game. And Suggestion's. Give me a hollar.

You are right . It is unbelievable. I never believe in systems that people allude to, yet never explain.

Yeah I'd suggest that you post it first so we can look at it and tell that it may suck or not.

Basically I calculate the number of cards left in the deck that I can use then I subtract 2 from that than divide that by what is in the pot and if its greater that 50% I stay in and it works.

So you are at at the turn, you are drawing to a straight, lets assume an outside straight.
there are 8 outs
8-2=6
there is $30 in the pot
6 /$30=0.2
it costs $2 to call
since .2<.5 (20%<50%), you fold
Am I correct in applying the system?

If manic is correct in understanding your strategy. From what I read I think he is. It doesn't make any sense. Using his example: 8 outs and $30 pot, so you would take 6/30 and you get .20 (20%). But if the pot were $12 6/12 you would get .50 (50%) you would call. Why would you call with the same hand, same chance of making what you believe would be the winning hand, with less money in the pot. Am I understanding your formula correctly.

No it doesn't. When running good I get up and run around my house if Ido it in under two minutes than I stay in the hand this works. Except when I am on a bad run than it doesn't work. Weird.

If you are going to spend the time and effort doing calculations then why not do the correct ones.

Good so far. Gotta play to win.

Good. Can't critique your own strategy if you don't have one.

Excellent. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) always improves everything all the time.

I can't "believe but it works." Is it hard for you to "believe but it works"? (I'm a grammar snob)

I am too. When I have 9999 SnG chips, I run over the guy with 1. Every time.

Doubt it.

Yeah, read, study, read, study, read and then study.

I play like the up & rising player Blade myself. That guy is amazing sometimes. Except when he makes mistakes then he is a complete idiot, but I skip that part.

Oh, I so know what you mean! Most of the time I play like this disciplined, attentive, straight-thinking guy hokie95.

Other times? I play like this wheelin'dealin' guy named Hokiestopthrowingyourchipsinthepotwhattheheckiswrongwithyou95.

But Hokiestopthrowingyourchipsinthepotwhattheheckiswrongwithyou95 was waaaaay too long to use as my screenname.

Have you ever had a nice thing to say about anything? For the most part, I find a lot of value to this site, but when it comes to your posts, I find them to be worthless.

Might as well just skip your posts from now on.

I suppose you could do so. It is a free country and all.

To answer your question (which I know was rhetorical): yes. Frequently. I also enjoy this forum. I enjoy intelligent, coherent discourse on my reasonably newly acquired hobby. I also enjoy poking fun at ridiculous behavior, including but not limited to ALL CAPS SELF-AGGRANDIZING, meaningless posts about self-proclaimed highly successful systems, and I am sure there will be more that are yet to be discovered.

Did you find great insight in the original post? Could you understand it? Was it worth your time?

How many cards short? To find out, divide the remaining cards in the deck in half, then add two...

ok contrary to the others above i would like you to explain your system in a more detailed fashion, as posted above i think an openended straight draw is a fine example
you see the flop you have 8 outs to win the hand
your last to act
costs you 3 dollars to call
18 dollars already in the pot
do you call?
and if so why?
