| Online tournament on Party the other night, $20 NLHE about 550 players. I make it to the money (top 60) without really getting any decent hands. I finally had a few hands to play and average stack with about 34 players left. With the huge blinds, the table has become very tight. Lots of blind stealing. Lots of folding preflop. This is were I like to play a little loose/aggressive and hope to make a move to get to the final table. I raise hands preflop with (ie. KJs, Axs, Q10, etc..) and steal a lot of blinds. Im above average stack when i get dealt AJs in early position. I raise, 1 caller (he had a little more chips than me). Flop comes: A, 5, 9 (two spades). I got top pair, so-so kicker and Four to the nut flush. I bet 5000, (have about 20000 left). He calls me!!! Im thinking he has AQ, A10, or AJ. If he had AK i think he would have raised my preflop. If he had A9, he would have raised my bet post flop. Maybe he had a flush draw (KQs, Q10, etc. ) Turn is a J (no spade): I bet another 5000.... He calls again?? Now I think I can rule out pckt 5's or 9's. Cause I think hed raise me to stop from drawing out a flush. I think he either has the same as me AJ. or the slight possibility hes on a flush & straight draw with something like KQ.??? River is a blank. I would normaly bet out here, but I wasnt to confident with my read on his hand. I only had 10000 chips left. If he did have AJ we'd split the pot. If I check and he checks I'll be happy with collecting the pot. So I checked the river to him. He goes allin! Now more thoughts are spinnin. Maybe he though I was weak with Ax and flush draw and didnt get it. Maybe he has AQ or A10 and bets cause he senses my weakness.. I got top two pair. I call. He shows me a set of 5's. He had me the whole time.... o well. How bad was my play?????? I busted out in 32nd and made $91 on a $20 buyin .. The night before I made $132 on a $20 buy 500+ tourney as well. | ||

| I think you played it fine until the river where you probably should have folded. Any player that calls a raise preflop and then calls two large bets postflop (without raising) has got a very good hand. As hard as it is to lay down top 2, I think for your tournament survival you have to do it here. BTW, how much did you raise pre-flop? To a 4x raise that late in the tourny, most players would muck 55 unless they were on of the huge stacks. If he was, then you probably should slow down on stealing. Good results in both tourny's though. | ||

| My preflop raise was 3 or 4000, cant remember. BB was 1000. I think another problem was my many raises before where I stole alot of blinds. I think thats why my raise wasnt respected here. Thats why he played his pocket 5's. Just my thoughts!!!! | ||

| he who lives by the sword, dies by the sword. immediatly after the hand, knowing what you knew before the hand, was there ever a step where you said DAMN i shouldnt have done that *other than the final call*? i cant really see it, remember sometimes other people get lucky (no he didnt outdraw you he was ahead the whole time but he did get lucky you flopped an ace at the same time he made his set and then got lucky when you paired your queen but your flush didnt come) | ||

| I know what you mean. I played it right untill the call on the river. Having that hand with a board like that, I was going to lose a lot chips no matter what.!!!! | ||
