QUESTIONS TOO ASK YOURSELF?, brian h, 13. Oct 2003 20:44

| I'm try to come up with basic questions to ask myself as I progress to the river. Anything you can add to what I have would be great. Right now I play 3/6 with poor to avg players. 1.What's my position? 2.What's my hand? 3.Would I call a raise / re-raise? 4.Did I improve on the flop? 5.How strong is my had now? 6.Odds of improving? Then I can ask questions 4-6 on the Turn and the River again. And of course at all points as myself pot odds and who raised when. Any comments or suggestions? Thanx. | ||

Any comments or suggestions? > Thanx. brian- I think your questions are great; but be prepared to start dropping them as your game progresses and you get better. After a while, you will begin to just "know" the answers. For example, question 1, at some point, you will almost always be able to 'feel' you position and you won't have to think about it any more. | I think it's a great question When debating calling a preflop bet, I ask "What will a 'good flop' be for my hand (aside from miracles)?" That helps me avoid staying to the river when I catch a piece of a flop that I ought to know isn't good enough. For example, when I limp with Axs and catch bottom pair with no flush draw, the question helps remind me to GET OUT in response to any agression.

| The one category you are missing is what type of players are you playing against and who is in the pot? You could be at a table of calling stations but there also could be a rock there or a maniac. This situation will change the types and amount of hands you play dramatically. Also, your relative position to thoise players also is very important. One other question you might add is whether or not a scare card that comes actually hurt you. You need to replay the hand in your mind quickly to determine that answer. Good luck. Steve | ||
