as barry or roy posted last week, just copying and pasting does not help anyone understand why you did what you did and your thoughts at each point in the hand...

but without your thoughts, i would just say, why raise someone who bets out twice after he knows you have a strong hand preflop? he easily could of had QJ. or a nice openended str draw (which he had on the turn, with top pair worse kicker) or the flush draw. but with the betout on the turn i dont think its a flushdraw at all, but a made str. he obviously bet it strong caus of the toppair/str possibility.

Sorry, I was playing three tables at the time, so i didn't add much dialog as I usually do about my thoughts.

Basically, I kinda suspected KQ but wasn't sure and was just going to push it until i thought I was beat. Maybe I should've folded the river, not sure if the turn raise was correct, but in case I was still ahead didn't want to let him off easy.

My general thinking is that if I'm going to err, I want to err on the side of being aggressive. Thats all, thanks for the response.

I think you played it right...but I think he played it right, too. Not a "bad beat" but a tough one, to be sure. This is one of those hands where I think it's pretty easy to get a good read on what your opponent is holding. Consider that:

1. He limped in from EP, so he's likely to have a real hand, probably two high cards or a middle pair.

2. He didn't raise pre-flop, so I think you can exclude QQ-AA, which is great news for you once you see that flop.

3. He bets out on the flop. He must have a piece of it. If he were on a diamond draw, he'd probably check. I'd immediately think AQ, KQ, or AJ. Maybe QTs or QJs, but those aren't likely limping hands from EP. Also, he'd PROBABLY raise pre-flop with AQ, and he might check with AJ. If he did limp with QJs, he'd reraise for sure, in case you were on a draw. It feels like KQ is most likely.

Of course, this is GREAT for you, because it's a classic second best hand that will pay all the way off! Your raise is right on, and when he calls, it's more evidence that he's got a real hand, but he's not quite confident enough to re-raise. Looks like KQ.

4. That turn card hurts. If he has KQ, you're now dead to a 9, K, or A--more than 20% of the cards in the deck. Even if he were 100% sure you had the AQ (which I think is possible), he's got the right odds to draw. Still, you're right to raise and make him pay the MAX.

5. The river hits. Ugh. He bets. You're getting 10:1 on that final call. You've got to figure you're beat here. But are you 90%+ sure? It's close. Had you chosen to muck on the river, I don't think anyone could criticize. But I'll not fault you for putting in a crying call either. People play wacky cards in LLHE. Had you mucked, I'm sure he would have turned over 22 :)

So, bottom line. Tough beat, but I don't see any real mistakes here.. The river call could go either way, but that's about it, IMO.

...And P.S. modest is right that it's more helpful to post your thought process than just to paste in the hand. For example, did you suspect KQ? Why raise that turn bet? Had he reraised, what would you have done, etc.

I think you played it fine until the river. This is one of those cases where I think you can safely save a bet despite the size of the pot. You showed aggression throughout the hand which he called, and then he STILL bet the river when the 4th card to the str8 came out. He only needed 1 card to beat you.

I find that at any level below 10/20, there is not a player alive who will bet that river without at least a 9 (and most likely has a King). So, I would have saved $6. Otherwise, I like your play the rest of the hand.

(No offense noiseboy, I really don't have anything to add on your play. But, I think this is an interesting hand from both sides)

What do you guys think about his opponent's play?

With the raise on the flop by noiseboy who was also the preflop raiser wouldn't you have to put him on any hand that is beating you pretty badly at this point? (AA, KK, AQ, a set of Q or J's?)

I am wondering why the turn bet by the opponent was a good bet on his part. Is this a time to call noiseboy and see the river? Is being aggressive in a flop that has a good chance of hitting the preflop raiser pretty hard correct when you know the preflop raiser is going to go after this pot pretty aggressively?

I would just like some thoughts on this because the opponent's situation is a situation where i find myself "on the fence on". In this case I would have check called the turn and check raised the flop if I read noiseboy as somone that would bet the river or led out the river if I thought he would check down a scare card.
