| Let me first preface this post with the fact that I hope to make poker more than just a hobby one day. Does that mean drop my regular job and become professional? Who knows, but it does mean playing for REAL $$ some day (don't tell my wife-LOL). When do I know that's it;s time to move up? Playing the $1/2 games seem to be very limiting, meaning that I am not able to use much of the skill that I know is involved in this game. Do I need to first win "x" amount of money on each level? Is it truly possible to dominate a LL game if noone will lay it down. I feel at this level if you don't have the cards, you can't win (enough). It almost seems like a catch-22. I don't have enough experience and skill to play the $5/10,$10/20 and up, but is it possible to gain that needed skill at the $1/2 and $2/4 limits? Maybe it is and I'm just a moron!! Just asking because I don't have a clue on how the learning curve works, you know? P.S. If anyone is interested in being a mentor, I would really love to learn and will do what is necessary. I teach junior tennis players who wish to turn pro so I am aware of what it takes to make it to the next level. If anyone is interested in helping me reach the next level in the shortest amount of time, I would definitely be willing. Thank you very much. | ||

| I would be really interested in the responses to this post. I, however, have a wife who came up with the idea after watching me play a few times. (I think she is crazy...) Also, I wish I could buy stock in "ADAM THE EXPERT WILL REPLY TO YOUR POST" | ||

| DON'T YOU JUST WISH ! ! ! ! ADAM THE EXPERT MAKES MORE MONEY, PER GAME HOUR, THAN ALMOST ANYONE IN THE WORLD. I AM ONE OF THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS IN THE WORLD, WHO CAN MAKE A NICE, SIX FIGURE LIVING, PLAYING ONLY ONE, YES ONE GAME AT A TIME. FOR ANYONE TO THINK OTHERWISE, IS FINE. THESE THOUGHTS HAVE BEEN DELIBERATLY IMPLANTED IN YOUR BRAINS, BY ME. THIS IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE "CHARACTER" OF ADAM THE EXPERT!!!!! THE FACT THAT MIKE AND ROY HAVE DECIDED TO DELEATE ALL MY POSTS, JUST REINFORCES MY INCOME POTENTIAL. ANYONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT POKER, CAN SEE THE TRUTH AND SOPHTISICATION OF MY POSTS, AND LOOK BEYOND THE ARTIFICAL COCKINESS AND ARROGENCE OF THE CHARACTER. COME ON HOKIE, DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT HENRY WINKLER WAS "THE FONZ"? DO YOU THINK ANDREW ROBINSON (CRAZED KILLER IN DIRTY HARRY) LIKES TO KILL GIRLS? HA HA HA HA THIS IS A ROLE, MY FRIEND, AND A VERY PROFITABLE ONE AT THAT. | ||

That logic is scary. > > > ANYONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT POKER, CAN SEE THE TRUTH > > AND SOPHTISICATION OF MY POSTS, AND LOOK BEYOND THE > > ARTIFICAL COCKINESS AND ARROGENCE OF THE CHARACTER. I've tried. Mostly you say that you are great and therefore your advice is valid. That is called circular reasoning, and is universally recognized as fallacious. > > > COME ON HOKIE, DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT HENRY WINKLER > > WAS "THE FONZ"? DO YOU THINK ANDREW ROBINSON (CRAZED > > KILLER IN DIRTY HARRY) LIKES TO KILL GIRLS? Your point? Were this a poker game, I could see the use of a crazy persona. It's not. (You knew that, right?) | Low limit holdem CAN be beat...very successfully in fact. Far and away the biggest factor that will make you a winner in LL is patience. You should be able to pull in at least 2BB an hour, probably more(4-5 maybe if its online) and get to the point where you NEVER go on tilt. You can read and understand all the strategy and all the odds etc etc but if you can't control your emotions you'll never suceed at any limit. That being said, low limit is a totally different game(as Adam the Expert will undoubtably tell you). You might enjoy some Sit N Go NL tourney's or the shorthanded games if you'd like to try out more of the skills you've been reading about without putting your hard earned bread and butter... Best of luck! | ||

| socal, Where are you at in socal? I'm here to and maybe we could get together. "Is it truly possible to dominate a LL game if noone will lay it down. I feel at this level if you don't have the cards, you can't win (enough). " Poker is a blend of luck and skill. The luck factor is constant - skill may be present or not. How is it possible that when the disparity between your skill level and your opponents skill level increases (as it would when your opponents play poorly), winning becomes more difficult over the long run? LL can be beat. | ||

| Beating low limit games like yours is very simple. Don't try to get people to fold if they won't. Just play a very patient mathematical game and get your money in when the odds are with you, meaning when you have the best hand and/or when you have a draw worth playing. Let them pay you off with shit hands while you give them minimal action unless you have the best of it. You'll know when you're ready to move up. It's when you've been a consistent winner at your current limits and have extra money and are itching to play higher. But make sure you can beat the small games first. Don't make the mistake of thinking that you can't beat the small games cause no one ever folds, so I'll try the bigger games instead. If you can't beat your current game, you won't beat the bigger game. You will need to develop new skills to beat the bigger games, of course, but you can develop those skills gradually. After you've developed the correct mathematical skills to crush the 1/2 game, you can move up 2/4 or 3/6 where the math skills alone can make you a winner. But you may also be able to learn new tricks and skills to improve your profit at this level. When you can crush those games, move up again and your skills will make you a winner there as well, but hopefully you can learn additional skills to increase your profits, and so on. I think a much bigger change is required when changing from playing 10-handed to playing short (4 or 3) handed than is required for moving from 1/2 to 3/6. | ||
