| I went to Harrahs in E. Chicago last week. It was my first time playing in a casino. The lowest limit they had was 5/10. That is what I played. I lost $150 in 3 hours. Just about everyone at the table was a regular. I made one huge mistake: I had pocket Aces. I raised before the flop w/ 2 callers. The flop came Qc10h7c. I bet and was called by one player. The turn came Ks. I bet and was called again. The river came Jc. I bet and was raised. I never even thought about a flush. I just thought about how great my straight must be. I bet and he raised, I figured at best he had me tied with a Ace, so I reraised. He then called and showed me 8c3c. A HUGE mistake by me. I could not believe that I missed seeing the flush possibility. I was so embarrassed I could have crawled under the table. About an hour later I had pocket Jacks. I raised and had 2 callers. The flop: 3hJs8s. I bet and was called by one player. The turn was 5d. I bet and once again was called. The river: of course 2s, giving the other guy a flush. This time I did notice the possibility. So I check called, figuring he had hit a flush and I was right. I really hate the river. I did have a great time though. The poker room manager and a few of the dealers were really rude, but other than that it was a good room. Do you think that 5/10 is too high of a limit for me starting out? I have played online poker for about 2 months now. | ||

| Hey man, Wel, first experiences can be a bit of an education and iit seems like you got one. Live play moves slower than online, slow down when making your choices and consider things a bit more closely. As to the limits 5/10 is the lowest Harrah's or any other room with in seveal hundred miles offers so thats your only choice. what kills about Harrah's is the brutal rake of $6 max and $1 bad beat drop at 5/10. Thats $7 per hands....YIKES. | ||

| Hi michaliv, I'd like to answer your last question. "Is playing $5-10 too high for a player who is just starting out"? That will depend on a several factors. Is your bankroll fit to play $5-10, and if not, do you have easy means in replenishing it (ie), through your weekly paycheck? If you have the bankroll to play $5-10 and you chose to sit in a game where you are playing better than your opponents are, and you have more abilities (edges) than your opponents do....then you stand a very good chance in that particular game. If you feel comfortable about putting those 5 and 10 dollar bets into the pot, and you can still play your solid game of poker, (without ever playing on scared money), and you can play with confidence.....then by all means, play there. Just protect your bankroll and think about the big picture as well. good luck to you. 4P- | ||
