Vegas local tourneys' alternate list, PBG, 13. Oct 2003 08:23

Until this weekend, I had never been in a tournament with an alternate list. This list is a waiting list and if a player gets out the next person on the waiting list takes their place at the table. Obviously the person who is first has quite an advantage over someone who is tenth with the blinds going up constantly.

Does anyone know why they do this??? I'm pretty good at running up my chips into a competitive stack (in NL only) and was able to do it as a 13th place alternate in a short amount of time ($1000 into $6500) . But there were 20 spaces on the alternate list. I would hate to be that 20th person...blinds would be 100/200 with 1000 chips- doesn't give you a lot of time/space to futz around with hands. I'm not used to having to "go to work" so quickly when I get to a table.

It was the Sam's Town Saturday night tournament. If anyone has had experience w/ this, please share.

Do they still charge full price to be an alternate?

Obviously you're familiar w/ the clientele there. All I know is they have one hell of a time keeping the smokers away from the geezers...
