2-4 NL. I am one of botton. QJc. I limp in to me, I raise to $4. SB calls, BB raises in to 8. Original caller folds. I call. SB folds.

Flop comes 3J9 no clubs. BB bets $4. I think weakness and raise to $10. He raises to 18. I think for awhile and fold.

I have a very tight table image and have won several pots on my bets alone. The table itself leans tight.

Thinking back I think callling his initial bet is maybe the right call. I am looking to improve my hand and could do so cheaply. I also get to see how he reacts after this point.

Thoughts.

Without knowing the player you were up against I'd say it has the odor of an overpair in a NL game with $2/4 blinds. Under the conditions which were created at the table I think a fold was smart. Before that I would have taken his pre-flop re-raise a bit more serious and considered check calling.

Blade I think your raise preflop is ok if you can read your lone opponent at the time well. When the big blind raises $8 more (or was it a total of $8??????) you know you are behind and calling is right. I like the fact that the hand got down to heads up if I am you. True you are likely looking at an overpair but you still stand a better chance headsup that with 3 opponents. When he bets $4 on the flop you are looking at a $4 call to win $22 or more depending on how the actual preflop betting went. Since you should fear he has an overpair here I think raising headsup is an error. If he has the overpair he will always reraise you and likely take you off your hand. I wouldn't let him play me off the hand. He made a horrible bet on the flop UNLESS he holds a set of jacks (even with this holding he bets too little!!!!). Take advantage of your opponents errors in no-limit poker and put yourself in a position to win their stack!!!!! Don't reverse the situation and let them off the hook....you won't get that many cracks at it. Just a thought. GRANT PITTMAN
