Your placement in the spelling bee tournament, however, was slightly lower.

Congrats! Now you have the bug! I've been an online ring game player for several years and finally deposited $200 on Stars and played in my very first tourney there last April. It was a $50 PLHE and I amazingly took 3rd in my very first multitable tourney. I had to admit it was the biggest adrenaline rush I've ever had playing poker. I had caught the bug with that score.

That gave me a nice little bankroll to try more tourneys and I've basically have never looked back. 9 final tables since, including 2 first place finishes. I don't play nearly as many ring games now since tourneys are just so thrilling--and so far for me, more profitable.

One piece of advice. Play your tourneys on Stars, it's a far superior site for tourneys. Party has fishier players, but their structures are poor. Once the money comes close they turn into a stall-a-thon as players on the bubble use every second of their time, every time. Stars prevents this with a "time bank" that can get exhausted if you keep this ploy up. This time bank also prevents frustrating on purpose all-in disconnects some yahoos love to pull. This makes them much more orderly and usually a 250 person event will finish in 4-4.5 hours.
