I am playing 10/20 at Party. I am in the SB with black 99. UTG raises, he is a fairly new player to the table, I put him on A-Big, There is a re-raise after a couple of folders and after watching this player re-raise consistenly with AK or AQ and seeing his stack dwindling, I beleive I have the best hand So I cap. Flop comes 10 8 8 with 2 hearts, I bet out and get raised. I think this guy might have an overpair, with the pot being so big already it would be a beleivable play to start playing fast now. But still think he may have overcards, maybe with hearts. The original 3 better calls, as do I. Turn is a Qh, scary card. I check, Original raiser bets, raise by the next player, he is close to all-in, Now I think he has AQ so I fold. Other player calls. RIver is a blank. Check, bet, call. Pocket 7's(original raiser) beats AK (3 better preflop) with A of hearts. Should I have called it down? I would have had to call 40 cold and then another 20. Your thoughts please.

Hey Stevolley,

In that spot, I would have done one of two things. Flat call the 3 bets... or fold. I would not cap it from small blind position, ( just like I probably wouldn't cap it with QQ in that position). If my opponent/s standards were to only raise UTG with premium pocket pairs, then I wouldn't even hesitate laying down pocket nines, and with the (aggresive) third player making it three bets.....it really makes it more difficult for you to maneuvar the hand unless your flop is good.

In my opinion, the hand would play better against either one opponent or multiple opponets, but when it comes back to you at three bets cold, I just don't think the hand has any value to it unless you flop a set because you'll never know where you stand; therefore, making it a very tough hand to play in an upfront position against two aggresive opponents.....and leaving you in a situation to not being able to truly maximize on the hand, even if it *is* the best hand out there, all the way to the river.

Now, when you decide to cap it off preflop, you are basically then committing yourself to a flop bet. (I think you put yourself in a tough spot.)

However, once you do decide to cap it off, and lead at the flop....I would then call the two extra small bets for the size of the pot alone, and (the flop was not that bad for your holding....considering). But....when I didn't improve my hand on the turn, I would check fold. Not only are you faced with a double bet.....the UTG player could still put in another raise there if you decide to check and call the two bets cold, costing you even more money. And although you had the best hand, (and you would have won the pot had you called the two bets cold on the turn).......I think it will have a negative expectation in the long run. Good fold.

(just my opinion).

good luck.

4P-
