How do you handle this...?, Candide, 9. Oct 2003 10:33 | ||

| Ok, we had our first small poker tourney at my place and it went well. (I won it, somewhat unfortunatly, I wanted it to seem as fair as possible, and it was, I just have more experience than all but one of the other players). Anyways, we had this situation come up and it was one I wasn't exactly sure how to handle. And I wanted to get a clarification for other related situations. Ok, let's say player 1-5. 1 is OTB, 2 is SB, 3 is BB. On that hand, 3 gets busted out. Who is the small blind, or is there one? Obviously 4 is still the BB, does 2 now have to post a second SB? Bigger question I guess. SB gets busted out. The BB would have been the SB, but is now OTB. Does the BB post a dead blind or something? Is 4 still the BB, or is he now the SB and get to have the BB pass over him? I'm thinking that in situation 1 there wouldn't be a SB, and in situation 2 OTB posts a dead SB. Is that correct? Are there any other related situations I should know of? Sick right now and can't think of all the questions I had over the weekend. | ||

| First of all, congrats on the win. How much was it? Don't feel bad because you hosted it and won, as long as people had fun they shouldn't really care. As for the other thing..I may be totally wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure that the way it works is this. If a player busts out while in the blinds, play continues as if he was still there. If he was supposed to post a blind the next hand, that blind just doesn't exist for that hand now that he's gone. So in the situations you described: > Ok, let's say player 1-5. 1 is OTB, 2 is SB, 3 is BB. On that hand, 3 gets > busted out. Who is the small blind, or is there one? Obviously 4 is still the > BB, does 2 now have to post a second SB? In this case 4 posts a BB, 2 is OTB and there is no SB for the hand. > Bigger question I guess. SB gets busted out. The BB would have been the SB, > but is now OTB. Does the BB post a dead blind or something? Is 4 still the BB, > or is he now the SB and get to have the BB pass over him? This is a little trickier, but I think that 3 is the SB, 4 the BB and the button is on the empty seat (so essentially 1 gets the button again since there is no one in seat 2 now). I think the key thing in these situations is that everyone is required to post all of their scheduled blinds but no more. So you'd never have someone post twice or miss a blind because of someone else busting out. I hope you feel better. Chris | ||
