| me! But, because I am a "pro" (I hate that word)....I got uninvited to play in NYC in a great game at an illegal poker club. I played there three times last week, as it was my first time in this club, and the guy that runs the place knew me and "requested" for me not to return. We weren't even playing in the same game, and it's not like I won a whole bunch of money, either. People SUCK!! | ||

| That's so uncool. Was this somebody that actually ran the place or something? Because if it's just somebody who plays there, you might be able to go back anyway if other people there recognize you. It might even be worth it to go there one day and play crazy for a round or two. The "fire up the table" approach mentioned in Hellmuth's book. Once a loose aggressive image is established, you just sink back into your pro style. Good luck! | ||

| Hey noiseboy, The guy that asked me not to return was one of the guys that ran the place. We've played together many times in the Taj in AC, and he knew that I played for a living; but before I ever got to this club, he assumed that I was just a friend of a friend who played there as well; and it was my friend that said to me , "hey, they've got some great hi-lo games where I play, why don't you come up for a few days". "I'll ask (so and so) if it's okay that I bring a friend". Well that's what he did, and the guy said, "sure, bring him along"! (when I arrived), he saw it was me that my friend walked in with, but he didn't say anything to me at all until the last day because he knew I purposely drove up to the city just to play there; but they just don't want people in their games who play for a living, plain and simple. What can you do? They have the right to 'uninvite' you if they want because it's not a public place. (it did suck though!) But it wasn't my place to say anything; so I just had to deal with it. Oh well, the games were great but...........c'est la vie. 4P- | ||

| At the top of this page, there is a link called "biographies". That lists a few of them and their handles on here. Roy Cooke, Barry T, I think Mark Gregorich too. stdioh or something like that. | ||

| stdioh and I are the only non-pros in the bios. I can't speak for stdioh, but I am sometimes tempted to refer to myself as semi-pro because of the number of hours I put into playing (20+ per week), but it is not my main source of income... -Moz "The more you ignore me, the closer I get. | I've been making more at poker than at my job lately; however, I have to keep it for awhile because of health insurance and because you need a bunch saved up before completely turning pro because long streaks of bad cards can and do happen. For me, I'd need about 50-75K in the bank before I seriously considered doing only poker. If you really think you want to go pro, do what I'm planning on doing. Find a part time job so that you have a steady paycheck and gradually get more and more of your income from poker. You can also try being a proposition player, which solves the problems of health insurance and steady paycheck. The only drag is not being able to select the best tables, which is one of the main sources of a players profit. In fact, I would think that table selection is the SINGLE most important skill to have in being a profitable player. Ok, that and emotional control. Caro says that among good players the player will win who tilts the least. Anyway, I'm not officially a "pro" but I think that in order to be a pro you must almost NEVER tilt. Or if you are prone to tilting, at least be aware of that and be able to walk away when you feel your emotions taking over. | ||
