Need an Online Recommendation, Bart Mann, 6. Oct 2003 13:47 | ||

| Good Afternoon: I'm not new to poker by any means. But I have been holding out on setting up an online gaming account for quite some time now, because there is a live card room about 15 minutes from my home. But now I think it’s time I jumped in and got a taste of the world of online poker. Understanding that most people here endorse one of about 5 sites or so, I only want to join one. So which one is considered “the best?” I realize that “best” is a subjective term, but for me I think it means “easiest to get my money into and out of.” Obviously there needs to be a variety of games at a variety of limits and a plethora of tournaments—and security and anonymity is a big deal as well—but the biggest concern for me is that the bankroll management is relatively smooth. Money in, money out, with no hassles. Does a site like this even exist, or am I asking too much of the Internet at this point? Thanks in advance for your help. | ||

| Also, it might be nice if many of you were members of the site as well, so I can actually play against the people whose advice I so routinely use. It looks like you guys often host tournaments among yourselves--is that correct? | ||

| The tournaments are hosted at UB. I've only cashed out from there once because I opened the account to take advantage of the big deposit bonus and to play the UPF tournaments. I don't play there much at all, but the cashout went fairly smoothly with firepay. I play mainly at party and I think they are excellent at getting and giving you your money. I deposited using firepay and was able to play within minutes, and I cash out using IGM-pay and usually wait about 5 business days. You can go through a procedure to expedite future cash outs, but I've never felt the need to get it faster than the 5 days. On top of that, the game selection is great and I have encountered zero network problems since they upgraded their servers a month or two ago. I guess that's it. Good luck with your choice Bart! | I play tourneys at UB and ring games/SnG's at Party. Party is VERY fast with money transactions, only seconds using IGMPay or Neteller to deposit, and usually less than 12hrs to cash out using Neteller. UB was slow to cash out for a while, several days, but my last cash out took only 8 hours using Neteller with them. | ||

| Another site which has some reviews, and is new and up to date is www.pokerresults.com Knowing where to play is an important decision but if your starting up, you should take start up bonuses into consideration as well - may as well take advantage of them! Anyway, poker results lists some of the best bonuses as well | ||

| Ok, I dont normally wade in on these kind of petty little auguments that clog up a otherwise very good site..........but.............. Modestmice, you are way out of line! The point of these sites is to encorage the growth of poker, and the devlopment of new players. To berate a New player for there choice in online site is just not acceptable, especcially in the "Getting Started" section of this forum. Perhaps, with your high and mighty opinon you should post your views on a more 'worthy" section. J | ||

| Modest You have just proved how little you know about these sites. They are designed to attract new players to the game. New players are the key to the success of the online poker rooms so belittling and mocking them will only have a negative affect. I think that you have a very selfish attitude and quite frankly its people likle you that the sites don't need. It is obvious you are only in here for the free games because i doubt you are even old enough to own a credit card, so all the rubbish that you are writing is coming from a kid that may have accumulated a large amount of chips in a free game. Wow that really does make you an expert. Now you better run along and finish your homework..... | ||

| UPF is moderated and we reserve the right to edit or delete messages, with or without cause. Our motive will be to promote a forum that is friendly and rich in opinions, while avoiding hostility, libel, overt commercialism, Here is my offer, I run a website where I refer people to poker rooms. If you go to an online poker room through my link, and then sign up to play there I will get a portion (20-30%) of your rakes for as long as you play. This is normally my commission for advertising and sending players to poker rooms. My offer is that if you sign up through any of the poker room that I advertise for through me, I will give you half of what I make from your rakes. If you play 20 hours a week your share will be something like $200-$400 a month, so the rakes really add up. You will get all of the 1st time deposit bonuses as well when you sign up through me. I keep track of how much you make me each month and will pay you at the beginning of each month for the previous one. I can pay you by personal check over the mail, by paypal or netteller. How we make our money is like this. Suppose you are playing 3-6 and you win a 40 dollar pot. You only get to keep 38 of it as the rake is 2 dollars. I get anywhere from 20-30% of the rake because you signed up through my advertisement. So 40-60 cents will be split between us every time you win a pot with a rake of 2 dollars. Here is my share of the rakes from different sites. Pokerroom 30% Partypoker 20% Empirepoker 20% Truepoker 20% Pacificpoker 25% You can sign up for all these poker rooms EXCEPT PARTYPOKER through my website: www.onlinepokerinfo.com For partypoker I have to send you a unique "signup bonus code" in order to track you. For all of the other sites all you do is click on the banner in the reviews section, sign up, and I am automatically credited for referring you. Even though partypoker only offers 20% of the rake back to us. I would still strongly recommend it because the games there are very easy right now. If you know anyone else who would be interested in doing this let me know. I will give you 10% of my profit from them after they sign up. Email: support@onlinepokerinfo.com AIM: eugeneel Please send me an email if you are interested. Sincerely, --Eugene on 8. | Bart, I too am looking to jump online for more play. I play at Commerce and Hollywood Park in CA, and have been dabbling in the play money games at PokerRoom.com. (I know play money is different than real, but I've got a consistent positive expectation from one-table limit tournaments.) Yesterday, I downloaded most of the major poker site software...UB, Party Poker, Poker Stars, Paradise Poker, Planet Poker. I intend to install them, register, and check out the feel of the software with play money. Whichever software and site combo seems to work best for me, as well as which site has a favorable deposit/cashout situaiton for me...I'll make a deposit and get going. It may take a while, but I can be patient. One must, with poker. -Urban "If you're dumb, surround yourself with smart people; and if you're smart, surround yourself with smart people who disagree with you. " | ||

| I started with UltimateBet.com, and have been playing there now for about three days. It seems to work well--lots of regular game and tournament options, always a ton of people around. And the servers are surprisingly fast, at least so far. But I didn't get any kind of signup bonus, which bummed me out. Also, with UB you build "points" for your play, which can be used to buy poker books and other items. But maybe this is pretty common--I thought it was cool, anyway. The only thing I don't like about UB is that there are no characters--everyone is just a name in a seat. For some reason, being able to put a face on a player (even if it's a cartoon face) helps me remember how they play. Anyone else experience this? | ||

| When I signed up with UB I expected a deposit bonus as well, but I didn't get one. So, I email tech support and told them that the reason I was signing up was because I heard that they had a 20% bonus for 1st time deposits. Within a couple of days they gave me the bonus and were very friendly about it. | ||

| There are a number of 'feel" criteria that are important to me in how the software/site operates. Also, the sites differ a fair bit on how they structure games/tournies/pay outs. That will also likely be important to you. Ex. One sight starts tourney play at 1500 @ 10/20 w/ slow rising limits, while another may go 1000 @ 15/30 w/ fast rising limits. That makes for very different games. I've been playing Pokerstars and am comfortable with their set up, and cash in/out has been smooth so far. However, Iam investigating UB (like PS better so far) and the other biggies. Can't see a way around it. Finally, isn't the best question: where are all the fish? ;^) GR | ||

| I have found that the bigger (more popular) sites are the best, probably with good reason. I recommend ParadisePoker.com and PartyPoker.com. I have NEVER had any difficulty getting money into or out of either one. Plus, most sites offer a bonus for your initial deposit! Usually, it is worth 20% up to some max of $50 or $100. Incidentally, to facilitate moving your money, I recommend opening a NeTeller account (NeTeller.com), which acts as a conduit, and it is free. Good Luck, Kenneycatkiller | ||
