Can someone give a comparision between the $1/2 games on Party Poker and the $1/2 games on Ultimate Bet?

Is one site looser than the other? I haven't played Party Poker yet but I am guessing it's looser due to several things.

1. Volume of people there
2. Advertising on TV brings in the fish (this is really the same as #1)
3. Lack of $0.01 / $0.25 games pushes the bad players up a couple limits

What can I expect at Party Poker?

You've nailed it pretty much on the head. Party is noticably looser. Really not much else to say except they have FAR more games running at those limits.

There is also a distinct difference at Party depending on the time of day. It is wilder in the evening, after say 8PM ET when the west coast starts coming in. Tightens up at about 4 or 5AM ET or so. Reasonably sane at other times.

ok, I'll have to try Party Poker...

I do okay playing $1/2 on UB but it really tightens up around 1:00 AM ET and the $2/4 game kicked my butt... I am playing like it says in Lee Jones' Low Limit Poker book but they still kick my butt. I tried to play the starting hands quite a bit tighter than it says in Lee Jones' book but it still doesn't work in the 2/4 games. I'm missing something.

It works quite well in the $1/2 games before midnight but after that forget it... only about 35% are seeing the flop and nobody gives up anything to me when I have a good hand. But they always seem to come up with the nuts when I hit the K high flush. It's like it's impossible to win a hand without flopping the nuts... and when you do, everyone folds.

It seems like when I win a hand I am only getting barely enough to keep me paying for the blinds but once every hour or two someone takes me down hard which is almost impossible for me to recover from.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Is the $2/4 at UB played more like a middle limit game than a low limit game? Maybe this is the cut-off point on UB where the Lee Jones low limit strategies quit working... If so where do I go from here?

Palinya:
I think I agree with you. I have not played 2/4 at UB so I can not speak to it. I will say that I agree that the 1/2 games do not seem to be too soft. The texture floats between tight passive, tight agressive and loose agressive.
You are blessed with an occaisional loose pasive calling station, but not often. Typically these games range from 30-40% of the people seeing the flop. Not too shabby for a low limit game. I like it for the challange. I want to learn good habits and tighter games help that.

Mss

Then again, I have only been playing for a month.

hey pal
u are in too low a limit to make any money as a tight player, especially online.
u must move up to higher limits to really get away from the issue youre experiencing.
in fact i wouldnt play online that much i f possible, its much better live (ive played UB for over a year)
if u do play online you dont expect to win a lot of money playing how you do. most of the players are pretty crazy and that means your swings will be greater. also eventually you will learn that you cant just play by the book.
i read that book and already knew most of the info in it from just playing 3-6 when i started, but i found the book to be too rigid. poker is more complex than a simple 100 page book. besides that if you play predictably, your opponants will know it. i always like finding players that play tight by the book , then i use that info against them. my only advice is to not be a predictable player or u will not be a winning player.
hope this doesnt sound harsh

if I deviate from playing by the book at all, my bank roll disappears almost instantly...

I doubt the 1/2 and 2/4 players are so perceptive they can put you as "by the book." Most are loose and crazy and playing tight is the best way to win

ive played the 1-2 and 2-4 at UB many a times and can say that the 2-4 is much different than the 1-2, but not harder. in my opinion i think the 2-4 is actually looser than the 1-2 from my experiences. in the 2-4 i would suggest sticking to what your doing if that is playing semi tight/very aggresive. you could be going through a bad run of cards but then again i havent seen your play. stick with it and see if things go better
