Turning Pro...location location location?, GambleAB, 6. Oct 2003 08:55

When I read about alot of people who decide to devote all of their time and bankroll to try to make a full time living off of poker, I notice that a vast majority (or at least thats what it seems like to me) say that they are packing up and moving to (or near) Vegas/Ca/AC. My question is, with all of the advnaces with online poker rooms, and the reliability of the major ones, is such a move nowadays a neccessity, or more of a style choice?
Unless I'm missing a big point, wouldn't the decision come down to weather the benefits of being in a B & M and being able to read each of your opponents (and the games themselves) and useing your psychological edge outweigh the convienience of playing online, not having to pack up and move, and the flexability of not having to wait for tables to free up in casinos?
Thanks for your replys!

I agree with you, nowadays you can be a pro anywhere, I actually know a professional gambler who lives in Cleveland, Ohio and rarely even plays online. If you can find the games you can do it anywhere.
With online now you can always find the games. Problem with areas without big casinos, alot of times the contributors will dry up and there will no more money to win.

If you move to a location in which there is live poker it will give you an option of playing both live and Internet....Financially the more and better options/opportunities you have the greater your chance for success and economic growth. If you are not going to play over $50-100 then I think Vegas is the best spot....Low rake...Low cost of living...and good games. If you want to play higher try California...Lots of game selection at the higher limits.

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GIVE YOU A COMPLETE ANSWER,

BUT SINCE THIS SITE HAS DECIDED TO AUTOMATICALLY

DELEAT ALL MY POSTS, I WON'T SPEND THAT MUCH TIME,

AS YOU PROBABLY WON'T SEE IT IN TIME.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: IT IS NO LONGER NECESSARY

TO LIVE IN ONE OF YOUR LISTED SITES, TO MAKE ONE

HELL OF A LIVING IN POKER. THERE ARE OTHER REASONS

PEOPLE MOVE TO VEGAS, AND LOS ANGELES.

NEVADA, HAS ADVANTAGES FOR CORPORATIONS, MANY

PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS, ARE INCORPORATED, AND

PAY THEMSELVES A SALERY, FROM MONEY EARNED BY

THEIR "CORPORATION. SOME PEOPLE JUST LIKE THE

VEGAS LIFESTYLE.

SAME FOR L.A. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO THERE, AND

THEY HAVE MORE GAMES THEN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

(INTERNET EXCLUDED) SO, WHY NOT MOVE THERE!!

SOME PEOPLE HAVE NOT YET GRASPED THE FACT, THAT

THE ADVANTAGES ON ONLINE PLAY SO FAR OUTWEIGH

THE ADVANTAGE OF BEING ABLE TO SEE ONE'S OPPONTNETS,

THAT ADAM THE EXPERT, EVEN HAVING ONCE BEEN A DEALER,

CAN NO LONGER RECOMMEND b& m CASINOS ! ! !

HERE IN ANCHORAGE, WE HAVE SOME OF THE BEST

POT LIMIT GAMES IN THE WORLD ! ! ! ! ! !

MY APPARTMENT, IS LESS THAN FIFTY YARDS, FROM ONE

OF THESE GAMES. THEY OFFER A FREE FIFTY DOLLARS,

FOR THOSE ARRIVING BEFORE SEVEN P.M.

MY BROTHER IS A DEALER THERE!!! YET, WITH ALL

THESE INTICEMENTS, I VERY RARELY PLAY THERE,

INSPITE OF THE FACT, THAT I HAD MY LARGEST WIN OF

MY LIFE, IN THAT GAME!!!!

SO, GAMBLE AB, IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT TURNING PRO,

AND ARE EDUCATED, EXPERIENCED, AND SUFFIECENTLY

FINANCED TO DO SO, DON'T EVEN THINK FOR ONE

SECOND, ABOUT MOVING.

JUST WALK FROM YOUR BEDROOM TO YOUR COMPUTER,

LOG ON, AND BEGIN YOUR WORK DAY.

GO TO THE B & M'S FOR THE FOOD ONLY, IF IT'S GOOD.

SORRY TO PHILIS CARO, AND ALL MY FRIENDS STILL WORKING

IN B & M'S, BUT THE TRUTH, IS THE TRUTH.

MANY OCCUPATIONS, HAVE GONE THE WAY OF THE DODO,

THAT'S A PART OF LIFE.

GET ON THE INTERNET POKER BANDWAGON, OR BE LEFT

BEHIND

My take on this is entirely different.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, poker has been my main source of income for ther last six months. I live in England and have never been to an a BM casino.

Given the ability to find soft games anywhere due to the internet, I am thinking of moving. Not to Vegas et al but to somewhere where the cost of living is much lower, and the weather is much much better and being a surfer, there is some cracking surf. Bali is top of my list at the moment, as they have a decent telecoms infrastrucure.

The whole world is a casino now, why not move somewhere where the cost of living is much lower (Yet much higher standard for you $).
Poker can give you the chance to do this as you can move anywhere and make $.

Thats my perspective anyhow.
There is a soft game anywhere so the world is my oyster.
