Maximizing Your Gain's, CodyHartman, 5. Oct 2003 08:38

Hello there, was curious if anyone knew of any good essay's, articles, or books that can help me maximize my betting during games, with a emphasis on tournaments.
I fell like I play well enough but have a hard time making my stack bigger when I get those great hands. For example I seem to overbet my high pairs and never get a flop just picking up the blinds. I do have a couple of plays like check raising, or checking the flop or turn to get them to try and make and hand. But I need some more theory and ideas.
Maybe a couple of tips on how you all play to maximize your chip stack.
Thanks so much,
Cody

A few of Roy Cooke's articles in Real Poker II, The Play of Hands deals with that topic for limit games.

I find that betting is usually best. But if someone else has already bet, and my hand can stand alot of heat, i will flat call and hope for other callers to build a big pot. Obviously this can backfire if your hand is not strong enough.

Another thing may be your image. Maybe you''re too tight and everyone realizes it.

Why don't you try posting some hands you want help with, and we can all analyze your play and make suggestions.

Mark

Thanks for the ideas will try and post some hands.

I think you are right that my table image leads others to fold when I do get big pairs.

Will start from there then.

Thanks,
Cody

Try limp-reraising with pocket Aces in early position. You can try this with KK-JJ too but it's much more risky. Just an idea.
